What kind of oil to fill in the gearbox 3110. Five-speed gearbox for the Volga

The main - Gearbox - Oil change in a five-speed gearbox

The frequency of oil change in the Volga GAZ-3110 gearbox is 60 thousand km and may vary depending on the operating conditions of the car - with frequent driving in difficult conditions, the change interval should be reduced. 1. It is better to drain the oil from the gearbox immediately after driving, while the oil is still hot and will easily drain. 2. Before draining the oil from the gearbox, the breather must be cleaned from dirt so that dirt does not get into the oil. 3. Place a prepared container for collecting oil (eg a plastic bowl) under the gearbox oil drain hole. 4. Unscrew the oil drain plug 1 and drain the oil. The oil can drain for a long time and it is better to drain it completely. Screw in the oil drain plug 1, then unscrew the plug for filling oil in the gearbox 2. 5. If the drained oil is significantly contaminated or there are mechanical impurities in it, do the following: pour 0.9 liters of flushing oil into the gearbox housing and screw the oil filler plug back into place ; hang out one or both wheels, engage 1st gear and run the engine for 2-3 minutes, without giving any special loads; drain the flushing oil; wipe the oil drain plug and reinstall it. 6. Fill the gearbox housing with a syringe with fresh transmission oil(gearbox oil). Carry out the filling up to the level of the oil filler hole (1.2 l).

7. Reinstall the oil filler plug.

8.1.9 Changing the gearbox oil

Changing the oil in the gearbox

1. Take a short ride to warm up the engine / transmission to operating temperature. 2. Park the car on level ground (not downhill), turn off the ignition and apply the handbrake. To improve accessibility, jack up the front of the vehicle and place it on the axle supports. Remember that the vehicle must be on its wheels when filling the unit and measuring the oil level. 3. Wipe clean and then unscrew the filler / inspection plug located on the front of the transmission. Remove the sealing washer. 4. Place a suitable container under the drain plug located at the base of the transmission case. To access the drain plug, unscrew the screws and remove the transmission protection cover. 5. Unscrew the drain plug and let the oil drain completely into the container. If the engine is too hot, watch out for splashing. Clean the fill and drain plugs, taking care to remove all metal particles from the magnetic inserts. Discard the sealing washers - they should be replaced after each plug is removed. 6. When all the oil has drained out, clean the drain threads, install a new sealing washer, and tighten the drain plug securely. If the car has been jacked up, lower it onto the wheels. Install a protective cover on the transmission where necessary. 7. Filling the transmission is extremely inconvenient. In addition, it takes a long time for the oil level to settle (before it can be measured). Note that the vehicle must be on level ground (not on a slope) when checking the oil level.

8. Fill the transmission with the correct amount of the specified oil type, then check the level. Install the filler plug with a new sealing washer and tighten securely.

You will need: a "23" wrench, a "24" socket wrench.

1. Place a container under the transmission oil drain hole.

4. Clean the drain plug from dirt and metal particles and reinstall it.

5. Fill the transmission crankcase with fresh oil using a syringe. Fill with oil up to the level of the oil filler hole.

6. Replace the oil filler plug.

The oil change frequency is 60 thousand kilometers.

3. Place a container under the gearbox oil drain hole.

5. In case of heavily contaminated drained oil or the presence of mechanical impurities in it, do the following:

Pour 0.9 liters of flushing oil into the crankcase and reinstall the oil filler plug;
- hang out one or both wheels, engage 1st gear and start the engine for 2-3 minutes;
- drain the flushing oil;
- wipe the oil drain plug and reinstall it.
6. Fill the gearbox housing with fresh oil using a syringe.

Carry out the filling up to the level of the oil filler hole (1.2 l).
7. Reinstall the oil filler plug.

More details:

We install the car on an overpass or observation ditch.

We drain the oil from the gearbox immediately after the trip, until it has cooled down.

Using a 12 hexagon wrench, unscrew the drain plug ...

And pour the oil into a wide container with a volume of at least two liters.

If the used oil is dark in color or metal particles are visible in it, we rinse the gearbox, for which we install the drain plug in place by cleaning its magnet from steel shavings.

Then, with a 12 hex wrench, we unscrew the filler plug on the right side of the crankcase (for a car with a ZMZ-406 engine) ...

Or on the left (with the ZMZ-402 engine).

With an oil syringe, fill the box with about one liter of the mixture of transmission or engine oil with 20-30% kerosene or diesel fuel and install the filler plug in place.

Substituting stops under the front wheels, we hang out the rear wheel or the entire axle.

Having included the first gear, we start the engine for 2-3 minutes.

Having installed the machine on the wheels, we completely drain the flushing oil (the duration of the drain is at least 5 minutes).

Having cleaned the drain plug again, we wrap it in place with a key.

After unscrewing the filler plug, fill the gearbox with fresh transmission oil with an oil syringe to the level of the filler hole (1.2 l).

Having installed the filler plug in place, we wrap it with a key. Instead of a syringe, you can use a funnel with a hose.

Here I will describe the process of installing a five-speed gearbox on my Volga GAZ-24. So I bought a five-night stand in Odessa from a teammate. While five-step on the road, I decided to start writing this article as new photos and information become available.

For now, I will publish information on five-speed gearboxes produced by GAZ (for comparison, information is given on 4 items of the Volga checkpoint):

The volume of oil for the five-speed gearbox Volga / Gazelle is 1.2 liters. But everywhere people are pouring more oil on the Internet, which improves lubrication, but can slightly increase fuel consumption and flow through the oil seals. In principle, an oil supply of 200-300 grams will save you from driving with a low oil level in the box, which can leak through the shank, for example, in an imperceptible way (after all, the oil seal quality is unpredictable). Recommended oil - synthetic or semi-synthetic for mechanical boxes gear shifting. Oil class GL4. It is also possible to use GL5 and mineral oils. Mineral water somewhat worsens the quality of lubrication, and in winter it increases fuel consumption. GL5 oils are more aggressive towards synchronizers, and also interfere with the synchronizer operation - the film of hypoid oil is very resistant to shear and the synchronizer does not bite properly, but slips. However, this oil better protects the oil from stress, especially in the heat of the summer.

The main difference between the five-speed Gazelle gearbox and the Volgovskaya five-stage gearbox is the traction direction of the GAZelle gearbox. For the Volga, these gear ratios are approximately similar to the four-stage, except for the first and fifth gears. The first gear on the GAZelle five-stage is very traction and with the second gear there is a large gap.
In general, in general, the box allows you to well realize the traction potential of low-speed motors. But in the case of intensive overclocking, the gap between the first and second is large. With the Volga's five-speed gearbox, the situation is similar, but in general the gearbox has a high-speed orientation. However, the first gear is more tractive than the four-speed gear, which allows you to move more slowly in the first gear, it is easier to get under way with a trailer or tow. The fifth gear significantly reduces the engine revs - by 20.6% when driving at high speeds. Also, with a working chassis, fuel consumption should drop on the track by 5-10%, depending on the driving style and the selected speed.

And from the photo of my gearbox 31029:

So the box arrived this week and was installed on the car. From the nuances of the installation - the clutch housing pins are turned out. switch reverse(frog) is similar to that of a 4-mortar and all modern performance is constantly out of order. The gearbox mount also fits from a 4-speed gearbox. The cardan is left straight - without the outboard bearing. The speedometer cable has been approached along the length. The exhaust bracket at the five-stage has its own and does not fit from a 4-mortar.
My forecast for gear ratios The checkpoint was justified, in addition, the long third gear allows overtaking that is not easy for the Volga - it can easily accelerate to 80-90 km / h (and the traction reserve is more than in 4th gear). The noise of the box as a whole in motion is lower, but on idle above. There are opinions that the application synthetic oil treats noise, but it is devoid of good reason and looks more like a placebo effect. The character of engine noise has changed. The noise of the engine is less audible - either the rustling of the bearings at idle changes its perception, or the five-step redistributes the exhaust sound to the cabin in a different way. It is also possible that this is due to my self-made exhaust bracket, which somewhat isolates the exhaust tract from the gearbox.

In terms of speed, the fifth gear can be used from 55-60 kilometers per hour. Naturally, you can forget about acceleration at such engine speeds. But if you have nowhere to hurry, then on a gas engine you can save a couple of crumbs (on a gas engine, detonation will be enough).

In general, the impressions were divided - 80% positive, 20% negative. The negative is gear shifting. The second and first gears are turned on very tightly when shifting from higher ones. Sometimes syncs don't work well. However, the box is not new, but the defects are standard for it.

Filled with new oil and installed the spring support

The box is in place - trying on the metal for the exhaust bracket - there was no factory one.
