Weaknesses and disadvantages of the Audi Q5. Audi Q5: robots retreat Problems with the Audi q5 box

24.09.2016

The Audi Q5 is perhaps the most popular crossover in the CIS, and this is a rare situation when a car does not have a male or female image, since this car is bought with great pleasure by representatives of both sexes. Opinions about the reliability of a car on many forums are quite different, there are, like absolutely satisfied owners, who write odes about a car, and there are those who believe that they have to call in a car service too often. What is the actual situation with the reliability of the Audi Q5, or perhaps the secret is in the correct choice of the engine and gearbox, today we will try to figure it out.

Few facts.

The Audi Q5 has been produced since 2008, the bulk of the model's production was established at the main Audi plant in Ingolstadt. Also, the car was assembled in China, India and Russia. After four years of production of the midsize crossover, Audi unveiled an updated version in 2012. The exterior has not undergone major changes, but the main changes have affected the interior, many elements have received chrome edging, have been modernized technical stuffing to improve comfort and driving performance... The engineers also upgraded the suspension, replacing the springs and shock absorbers with better ones, and the hydraulic power steering was replaced with an electromechanical one. On the technical side, instead of a 3.2-liter V6 gasoline engine, a V6 3.0 engine is offered for the Audi Q5. The rest of the powertrains remain the same.

Disadvantages to look out for before buying an Audi Q5

As domestic operating experience has shown, the paintwork is of a fairly good quality, and the body does not rust for a long time, even in the places of chips. And if you find foci of corrosion on a car of this model, then this is the first signal that the car was involved in an accident, and its owner saved on repair robots. But to body parts Audi Q5 has complaints, in particular, the chrome elements of the radiator grill grow cloudy rather quickly, replacement will cost 150 cu. It is not uncommon for owners to notice condensation in the headlights, and if drying does not help, then they will have to change the headlight unit, and this is not a cheap pleasure (400 - 400 USD). After 100,000 km, the LED "eyelash" of the size may stop working due to the failure of its control unit. Also, with a sharp temperature drop, the glass of the panoramic roof may burst.

Engines

The Audi Q5 is equipped with 2.0 TFSI petrol engines (180, 211 and 225 hp), 3.0 and 3.2 FSI (270 hp), as well as two diesel engines 2.0 and 3.0 TDI (177 and 245 hp). In terms of reliability, the two-liter TFSI is not the best, the reason for this is the design errors in the design of the pistons and rings. Because of this, rather quickly (after 50 - 70 thousand km), oil consumption increases and over time some owners had to add up to two liters of expensive oil, every 1000 km of run. In 2011, the manufacturer made changes to the design of the piston group and eliminated the problem, and on cars sold before 2011, this defect was eliminated under warranty. But besides this, this power unit has a lot of small, but unpleasant problems. For example, the same ignition coils rarely take out 80,000 km, at about the same time there are problems with the exhaust manifold, and in order to fix them, you will have to part with $ 1,000.

Until 2011, cars had problems with chain jumping, attentive owners could hear an extremely unpleasant metallic sound from under the hood, and this helped to avoid costly repairs. It is worth noting that, often, problems with the chain are found on cars that are operated in metropolitan areas. The main reason for chain hopping and valve kinking is an unreliable chain tensioner. Also, on many cars, with a run of 50-60 thousand kilometers, the fuel pump control unit fails. But, as for the list of faults for 3.2 FSI gasoline engines, it simply does not exist, the only thing that can cause trouble is a leaking pump. Otherwise, the engine is quite reliable and, with proper maintenance, does not bother up to 200,000 km.

Diesel engines have also proven themselves well, the biggest drawback of these units is that they are not very willing to start in winter. On faults, a couple of points can be noted - the first is the injection pump, the second is the malfunction with the exhaust manifold. Both sores are relevant for all diesel engines that are operated in the CIS, and this applies not only to Audi vehicles.

Transmission

Paired with power units, one of the types of transmissions is installed on the car - a six-speed mechanics, a 7-speed S-tronic robot with a double clutch, a 6-speed automatic and Tiptronic. S-tronic is a twin of DSG, which is installed on Volkswagen cars and, as it turned out later, their problems are very similar. Almost immediately after the start of sales, manufacturers were faced with a large number of complaints about the operation of the robotic transmission. After contacting the service, the owners changed the clutch and mechatronics under warranty. As a rule, this repair is not enough for more than 70,000 km, and if you are planning to buy a used Audi Q5 with such a transmission, be prepared for an expensive repair. But the mechanical transmission and automatic transmission are the complete opposite of the robot and do not cause much trouble for more than 200,000 km.

Weaknesses of the chassis of the Audi Q5

The front and rear axles are equipped with double suspension wishbones with coil springs and lateral stabilizers... For the most discerning buyers, Audi has provided a “Drive Select” system in the cabin of its coupe, which can operate in several modes “Comfort”, “Auto” and “Dynamic”. The system allows you to reconfigure the dynamic characteristics of the car and control the motor and suspension for the robot. The suspension of the car is quite reliable, and up to 100,000 km of run requires investments only from those who like to conquer the dunes. On some models, the owners are bothered by knocks on the suspension, but this is not due to the failure of the suspension elements, but to the fact that the shock absorber protection moves freely along the shock absorber rod; the problem is solved by using a more reliable fastening. If the previous owner of the Audi Q5 often liked to go off-road, then the first to be asked to replace the stabilizer bar and ball joints, somewhere with a run of 40-50 thousand km, and then wheel bearings (50-60 thousand km).

On cars until 2012, a power steering was installed, which, after restyling, was replaced with an electric one. And as operating experience has shown, most often the problems are caused by the rail from the power steering, up to 100,000 km the problems are insignificant (fogging and knocking when driving on bumps), and with a mileage of 120 - 150 thousand km, it will need to be repaired or replaced. Also, closer to 70,000 mileage, it will be necessary to replace the steering shaft cross, in the official service the shaft changes as an assembly (such a repair will cost 600 - 700 USD). The braking system is very reliable and withstands loads well.

Salon

The interior of the Audi Q5 is full of electronics, and from the point of view of operation, this is certainly a plus, but unfortunately, these options do not always work stably. Quite often, on the forums, car owners discuss such problems: spontaneous disconnection of the audio system, cars equipped with a keyless entry system stop recognizing the electronic key. If a lot of moisture collects on the driver's mat, the rear wiper and the electronic seat adjustment control unit may be damaged.

Outcome:

Overall, the Audi Q5 is enough reliable car, the impression of which is spoiled by the TFSI engine, electronics glitches and a robotic transmission. And if the previous owner of the car could eliminate the first sores under warranty, then with the latter, things are very bad. And if you don’t want to hum the tune of a famous song (it’s not me who have a car ... .. has me), give preference diesel engines or gasoline engine 3.0 s automatic transmission gear.

Advantages:

  • Comfortable and reliable suspension.
  • Fuel consumption.
  • Modern design.
  • Ground clearance.
  • Good dynamics.
  • Build quality.
  • Adequate brake system

Disadvantages:

  • 2.0 TFSI engine
  • Robotic transmission.
  • Electronics failures.
  • Power steering.
  • Repair cost.

Audi Q5 has been produced since November 2008. The main production of the model is established at home in Ingolstadt. In addition, the Audi Q5 is assembled in China and India. Some of the Russian Q5s were assembled in Kaluga until August 2010, and from March 2013 they started SKD assembly of the crossover there. In 2012, the car has undergone a restyling.

Audi Q5 (2008-2012)

Engines

As power units for the Q5 were assigned: two gasoline - 2.0 TFSI with a capacity of 180 and 211 hp. and 3.2 FSI 270 hp, as well as two turbodiesels - 2.0 TDI 170 hp. and 3.0 TDI 240 hp. After restyling, the engines increased slightly in power: the 2.0 TFSI to 225 hp, the 2.0 TDI to 177 hp, and the 3.0 TDI to 245 hp. Instead of the naturally aspirated 3.2 FSI, they began to offer a supercharged 3.0 TFSI with a capacity of 272 hp.

The most reliable in the list of engines turned out to be a petrol aspirated V6 3.2 FSI. The only problem that had to be solved was a leaking pump. But this defect occurs on all Audi Q5 engines with a mileage of more than 40-60 thousand km. The 2-liter turbodiesel is almost as reliable. True, in winter, some owners note a difficult launch: from the 3rd or 4th attempt. But here most likely the questions are not about the engine itself, but about the state battery and the quality of diesel fuel.

The 3.0 TDI has problems with the intake manifold flaps, which pop up after 60-80 thousand km. There are cases of failure of the injection pump, which starts to drive the chips. The problem is not new. The main reason is poor quality diesel fuel... The manufacturer took measures: the pump was modified and the engine operation program was changed. But new episodes with shavings occasionally slip through.

At the end of the reliable list, 2.0 TFSI is deeply lagging behind. The most common defect is increased consumption oil, due to a miscalculation in the design of the pistons. The problem grew to 40-60 thousand km, when the oil consumption approached 1-1.5 liters per 10 thousand km. On the recommendation of the manufacturer, when contacting the services, modified pistons were installed. After replacement, the problem was usually completely eliminated.

Audi Q5 (2012 - present)

Another more unpleasant surprise from the 2.0 TFSI is the timing chain jump followed by valve bending. The cost of restoration is estimated by official services at 180 thousand rubles: about 120 thousand rubles for new parts and about 60 thousand rubles for replacement work. Fortunately, there are several orders of magnitude less such cases than with the "maslozhor". There are several reasons: chain stretching, "subsidence" of the tensioner when the oil pressure drops (after a long period of inactivity) and failure of the stop valve of the camshaft position regulator (phase shifters). It was also noticed that more often the problem overtook those who operate the Audi Q5 mainly in the city for short distances, i.e. with a lot of startup cycles. It is possible to reliably determine the approach of a catastrophe only by the control risks of the tensioner: if there are already 4 of them, then the full stroke of the tensioner is selected, and the chain is stretched.

Also on the Q5 with a 2.0 TFSI engine, there are problems with the fuel pump control unit with a mileage of more than 40-60 thousand km, ignition coils after 60-80 thousand km (4 thousand rubles apiece) and the intake manifold after 50-70 thousand km (23-28 thousand rubles from dealers).

Transmission

Paired with 2-liter diesel and gasoline engines could be installed 6-step mechanical box gear. There are no problems with this box. Audi Q5 with 3.2 FSI engine and North American modifications were equipped with a relatively reliable 6-speed "automatic" Tiptronic. With the rest of the engines, the infamous 7-speed DSG S-tronic was aggregated. Shocks or shocks when switching, turning on only even or only odd gears and other problems appeared at 40-60 thousand km. Owners in authorized services, when diagnosing problems, changed the clutch, the mechatronics circuit board or the mechatronics technician himself. But even after repairs, cases of re-asking questions are not uncommon. It is reliably known that most often the defect manifests itself on cars operated mainly in urban traffic jams. After restyling, the S-tronic was left only on diesel versions of the Audi Q5. On petrol modifications, they began to install an 8-speed "automatic" Tiptronic.

Undercarriage

In the suspension, the lower ball joints and front wheel bearings are often the first to give up with a mileage of more than 60-100 thousand km. The cost of restoration from dealers is estimated: ball bearings at 8-9 thousand rubles, wheel bearing - 4 thousand rubles plus 4 thousand rubles for work. The rest of the suspension elements have not yet required systematic replacement.

Audi Q5 (2008-2012)

Knocks in the rear of the suspension, and sometimes in the front, are caused by the free movement of the shock absorber bumper along the rod. If there is a problem, authorized services fix the bumpers in the seat with glue. But, as practice shows, this is not for long. The radical method is more effective: fixing the bump stop with self-tapping screws.

With a mileage of more than 50-100 thousand km, there are occasional problems with the power steering. After restyling, the power steering gave way to an electric booster. After 40-70 thousand km, some owners noticed the appearance of squeaks or short-term efforts when turning the steering wheel. The culprits are the steering shaft crosses. When contacting the services, the "officials" changed the steering shaft assembly. The cost of the shaft is about 40 thousand rubles.

Other problems and malfunctions

The paintwork quality of the Audi Q5 is satisfactory. Body iron does not lend itself to corrosion. Over time, the chrome coating of the external decorative elements begins to darken. Some owners note chrome chrome peeling from the top of the radiator grill. The cost of the new grating is about 10 thousand rubles.

On Q5 in the second half of 2011, due to insufficient frost resistance in winter, the panoramic hatch panel may burst. In this regard, a recall campaign was carried out in the United States. In Russia, there was no revocable, but if there was such a problem, the services made the replacement of the panorama free of charge.

Audi Q5 (2008-2012)

Condensation often forms in the front optics. When contacting services, dealers disassemble and dry the headlight. If the problem persists, then the whole headlamp is changed. The cost of a new headlight is about 37-40 thousand rubles. After 60 - 100 thousand km, the LED "eyelash" of the size may go out due to the failure of its control unit.

Squeaks sometimes appear in the cabin, but, as a rule, they are of a local nature, and after they are eliminated, new ones do not appear. Glass dashboard scratches easily.

With a mileage of more than 60-80 thousand km, the supply fan often fails: it stops starting. Reason: wear of the brushes of the electric motor. A malfunction is diagnosed with a light blow to the glove compartment area: if the fan has started working, then it’s time to change it. The cost of a new stove motor is about 8-12 thousand rubles.

Audi Q5 received a large number electronic systems, a distinctive feature of which is floating non-critical "glitches". Most common: Electromechanical glitches parking brake("Handbrake"), tire pressure sensor, remote electronic key identification system, loss of sound in the audio system after starting to move, freezing of the dashboard display. If the airbag malfunction is illuminated, it is treated with a new firmware of the airbag control unit. The "glitch" of the washer fluid level sensor is caused by a wide scatter of the physicochemical properties of various anti-freeze systems, and, accordingly, the conductivity. There is only one way out of the situation: by trial and error, select a liquid, the determination of the level of which will not cause difficulties for the system.

There are failures of the heating element of the driver's seat and the backlight of the central display (about 12-15 thousand rubles a new display). Due to decay of the electrical wiring in the positive tee under the driver's seat, the wiper may stop functioning rear window and electric front seats. Water enters the wiring from the rugs: melted snow in winter.

The overrunning generator clutch travels more than 50-100 thousand km. The cost of a new original clutch is about 8-9 thousand rubles.

Conclusion

In general, the reliability of the Audi Q5 is not so bad. At one time, the 2.0 TFSI and DSG engines spoiled the picture. The first ailment has been completely cured, while the second is still different. Replacing the "capricious" DSG with an 8-speed "automatic" should have a positive effect on the popularity of the crossover. Electricians' glitches are a little confusing, but it remains to be hoped that the manufacturer will not disregard this fact.

Audi Q5 is a very popular crossover on secondary market... Why buying this SUV Audi SUV should be considered very carefully and carefully. In detail and point by point.

Audi Q5 has been produced since 2008.

In general, the reliability of the Q5 is not so bad. Full out was until 2012 with a 2.0 TFSI and DSG engine. The new generation of Q5 has removed the problem with this engine, but other nuances have been added, which I think have played a disadvantage for this Audi model, and as you have already noticed, it is practically not bought ... The secondary housing is full of these cars and with different engines. Today I will tell you what is worth taking, and what is worth running from like fire. And don't think you're lucky. There are no miracles. All copies from grandmothers who went for bread have long since ended ...

MOTORS Audi Q5:

The engines were installed on the Audi Q5: gasoline - 2.0 TFSI with a capacity of 180 and 211 hp. and 3.2 FSI 270 hp, as well as two turbodiesels - 2.0 TDI 170 hp. and 3.0 TDI 240 hp.

After restyling, the engines increased slightly in power: the 2.0 TFSI to 225 hp, the 2.0 TDI to 177 hp, and the 3.0 TDI to 245 hp. Instead of the naturally aspirated 3.2 FSI, they began to offer a supercharged 3.0 TFSI with a capacity of 272 hp. which is now 333 hp.

If you look at the Q5 of the first years of production, then the most reliable engine was the aspirated V6 3.2 FSI. The only problem is the leaking pump.

But this defect is found on all Audi Q5 engines and at different runs.

A 2-liter turbodiesel is also reliable, but better from 2011, because It was in this year that almost all the jambs that were in this engine at the beginning were fixed (kosyachny nozzles, it used to drive the fuel pump shavings) In general, many of the problems of this engine, of course, are due to the quality of the fuel, which is not particularly relevant now.

As for the 3.0 TDI, it had problems with the intake manifold flaps. Also the injection pump, drove the shavings. At the end of 11, the pump was modified and the program of the engine control unit was slightly corrected. In general, this motor was installed and is being installed on very many models of the VW concern, therefore, as they say, GOD HIMSELF.

The 2.0 TFSI engine is at the end of the list for reliability of this model. Models up to 2012 ate oil in barrels, due to the joint piston group. Oil consumption NORMAL was considered up to 1.5 liters per 10,000 km. If the owner ran out of patience and he still turned on his head and turned to the services, the connecting rod-piston group changed according to the revocable company, the oil cooler changed.

Note that after replacement, this problem is not completely eliminated. Masloger is present. But not 1.5 liters, but about 300-400 grams, you will still top up ...

But that's not all about this motor ...

Another "nice" surprise of this 2.0 TFSI engine is the timing chain jump followed by valve bending. Repair will cost the officials more than the cost of the contract motor. I remember when I worked for Audi, the estimate for the order alongside in 2012 was about 200,000 rubles. In general, be careful, Fortunately, there were certainly few such cases than with the "maslozhor".

CAUSES:

There are several reasons for the chain jump:

chain stretching (chain strength does not match the power of the turbocharged engine), the chain tensioner sagged when the oil pressure dropped (after a long idle period) (then its design was changed) and the camshaft position regulator (phase shifters) stop valve failed.

And more. This motor really does not like private starts, starts and short sections in an unheated state.

When buying, be sure to check the condition of the chain, which can be done either according to the control risks of the tensioner: if there are already 4 of them, it means that the full stroke of the tensioner is selected, and the chain is stretched. Either it is done with a diagnostic scanner, according to the state of the phase shifters. The maximum tolerance according to VAG standards is 3.57 gr. This is a critical value.

Also on the Q5 with a 2.0 TFSI engine there were problems with the fuel pump control unit, ignition coils and intake manifold.

A 6-speed manual transmission was installed with a 2-liter diesel and gasoline engine. Such cars were usually brought from Germany. There were no problems with this box, but there was one caveat. It broke the drive shaft landing cup on the left. Vibration appeared. Repair in such cases is not provided, or replacement of the box body. The installation of various compensating plates did not give much effect. In general ... A non-acidic surprise can form out of the blue. But by the way ... if you look soberly, in the conditions of industrial repair, this seat can be easily restored.

The Q5 with a 3.2 FSI engine was equipped with a 6-speed Tiptronic automatic transmission. With the rest of the motors 7-speed DSG S-tronic.

The first S Troniki as well as all DSGs. They pushed, kicked, there were blows when switching, the inclusion of only even or only odd gears and other nuances.

They constantly changed the software, changed the clutch, more often the mechatronics circuit board or the mechatronics engineer itself.

But unfortunately, after the renovation, the chance that you will come back is much greater than not.

After restyling, the S-tronic was left only on diesel versions of the Audi Q5. On petrol modifications, they began to install an 8-speed "automatic" Tiptronic.

And now after changing the chassis this car, again DSG and the machine is placed only on the charged version of the SQ5.

SUSPENSION:

In the suspension, as a rule, on the Audi Q5, the lower ball joints and front hubs are dying. The spare parts are full of analogues and it makes no sense to go to the officials with this problem. True, pressing out the hubs without removing the fist without VAG devices is almost an unrealistic task.

If the Q5 has Knocks at the rear of the suspension, then this is usually caused by the free movement of the shock absorber bumper along the rod. You need to either fix the bump stop, or install modernized ones ...

Squeaking or short-term biting when turning the steering wheel is a symptom of the steering shaft cross problem. Replacing the shaft will cost you about 40 thousand rubles.

FOR EXTERNAL CROSSES I would like to note:

Disease Audi Q5 is condensation in the front optics. Disassembly, drying, etc. it will not give you much, tk. the ventilation of the headlights and the general area around the headlight in general is a little wrong. And in wet weather or after washing, everything will repeat itself again. Then, after thawing, this problem disappeared. If the problem persists, then the whole headlamp is changed. The cost of the new headlight will not please you, so many people buy the Chinese analogue of Depo, which is just a miserable copy in terms of light quality. Therefore, when buying, check whether the headlights are native or original on a particular copy.

Often on these headlights the LED "eyelash" of the size burns out, but this usually means that the control unit has died. Disassembly is full of them. Don't try to buy a new one.

Also on the Audi Q5, the climate control fan often dies: due to the banal wear of the electric motor brushes. A malfunction is diagnosed by hitting the glove compartment area: if the fan starts working, then it’s time to change it. The cost of a new stove motor is about 15 thousand rubles. But analogs are much cheaper, and of quite excellent quality.

ELECTRONICS:

In the Audi Q5, as indeed in all Audi, there is a large number of Electronic Units, in which various floating non-critical "glitches" occur constantly. Therefore, if, when diagnosing a car before buying, you see a bunch of errors and they are deleted and do not appear again. Don't worry too much. This is often due to voltage dips caused by resistance in wet weather in winter in spring. And they do not affect performance in any way.

I can say that the most common: "glitches" are an electromechanical handbrake, a tire pressure sensor, keyless entry, loss of sound in multimedia after the start of movement, freezing of the dashboard display.

Things like Airbag Fault Illumination are treated with new firmware on the airbag control unit.

The "glitch" of the washer fluid level sensor is simply an incomprehensible chemical composition of the anti-freeze systems that are sold in our country. There is only one way out: using the testing method, select the liquid with which the level detection sensor works correctly.

By the way .. Due to the decay of the electrical wiring in the positive tee under the driver's seat, the rear window wiper and the electric drive of the front seats may stop functioning. This is usually a nuance of operation. It's just that water gets on the wiring from the rugs.

Well, that's probably all. What would I note from the most frequent and serious seen on the Audi Q5. Otherwise, the car is not bad, comfortable, and if you find an unused specimen and the correct year, I think it will only delight you.

Thank you for reading to the end, great luck Friends, when choosing a car.

Childhood diseases Audi Q5 (2008 - 2012, restyling 2012 - present).

Since 2008, the Audi Q5 has been produced in Germany, Ingolstadt. Q5 was also collected here in Kaluga. The assembly was SKD (they imported a "car kit" - to reduce "customs clearance"), so there is no need to worry about the quality. But if it is of principle for you, it is enough to look at the beginning of the VIN number. For cars assembled in Germany - WAU, assembled in Kaluga - XV8.

A choice of 4 turbocharged units with varying degrees of "boost" and one atmospheric. Diesels: 2.0 l. - from 143 to 190 HP, up to 100 km from 11 to 8.4 sec, average consumption- 5.7 liters per 100 km, 3.0 liters. - from 235 to 258 hp, the first hundred kilometers from 6.5 to 6.2 seconds, mixed consumption - 7 liters per hundred. Gasoline internal combustion engines: 2.0 l. - from 180 to 230 hp, up to 100 km from 8.5 to 6.9 seconds, average consumption - 7.5 liters, 3.0 liters. - 272 hp, up to 100 km - 5.9 seconds, city / highway consumption - 8.5 liters, 3.2 liters (atmospheric) - 270 Horse power, acceleration to 100 - 6.9 seconds, mixed consumption - 9.4 l / 100 km.

3 transmission options: mechanical - 6 gears, robotized in 7 steps (wet - DSG), 8-band "torque converter".

In management "ku-fifth" is precise and pleasant. The suspension is stiff but energy-intensive. The ground clearance is 200 mm, a definite plus for our country.

V basic configuration: four-wheel drive, manual transmission (6 st), el. heated mirrors, LED running lights and taillights, bi-xenon headlights, multifunction steering wheel, climate control, anti-rollback, assistance when descending from the mountain, cruise control, 6 airbags, el. boot lid drive, start / stop, rear parking sensors, heated front seats, CD - AUX audio system. To the "base" you can add: 2 rear side airbags, control of "blind spots" and lanes, pre-heater, adaptive headlights and cruise control, leather interior, heated rear seats, el. folding mirrors, electric front seats with memory and ventilation, HI-Fi navigation system with Bluetooth, keyless entry, light and rain sensor, rear view camera.

What to look for when buying a used Audi Q5.

Sores Solutions

Engine

2.0 TFSI - the timing chain is pulled out, the phase is shifted - the engine is "troit", the dynamics falls, if you don't notice it in time - the valve bend may appear even at 80,000 thousand km installation of the upgraded chain and tensioner, before buying - check the "tension" of the chain with a scanner (it is advisable to check the chain tension once a year)
2.0 TFSI - increased oil consumption - unsuccessful piston group design since 2011, a modernized piston engine has been installed (consumption has decreased, but has not disappeared), if the car is before 2011, you can write a letter to the manufacturer to fix the problem (free or 50/50) for a revocable campaign
2.0 TFSI - a weak oil separator membrane - an error in a lean mixture, rpm float, sometimes accompanied by a characteristic "whistle", the consequences - the crankshaft oil seal can be squeezed out immediately check the membrane, you can buy it separately from the oil separator (for example, on drive2)
2.0 TFSI - the engine stalls, the starter does not "crank", an error due to low oil pressure - the filter / mesh of the balance shafts is clogged replacement of balancer shafts
weak ignition coils (gasoline internal combustion engines) - on average enough for 80,000 km) Bosh is installed from the factory, so you should not overpay for a VAG sticker (it is advisable to have one coil in the car)
3.0 TDI - intake manifold rods often break installation of modernized rods
2.0 TDI - the timing belt can break at 50,000 km, and maybe even after 200,000 km, the pump wedges - the belt breaks (statistics are not great, but the engine is not massive) after purchase - replace the timing belt and pump (preferably the original), check the timing with an endoscope every - 50,000 km
3.0 TDI - power drops accompanied by error Check Engine (at first the problem is floating) - intake manifold air flaps are stuck removal together with the EGR system
3.0 TDI - due to a defect in the high-pressure fuel pump, chips get into fuel system as a result - expensive repairs be sure to check the warranty replacement of the injection pump at the dealer, if there is no data, it is better to refrain from buying

Transmission

DSG 7 - not the first time the gears are turned on, the box "jerks" - "kicks" replacement of the clutch, control boards or installation of modernized mechatronics, repairs are also possible according to the program - Kulanz, some auto repair shops - repair mechatronics, obligatory oil change every - 50 tons km

Suspension

bites the steering wheel - the development of the intermediate shaft (its cross) replace the shaft assembly (you can try your luck with - Coolance), change only the crosspiece in the shaft dangerous- there is a risk of being left without steering on the go!

Electrician

the "running light" (eyebrow, eyelash) stops burning, the protective diode in the control unit burns out repair from an electrician or purchase a diode in a radio store - re-solder yourself
"Whistling" or the motor of the cabin stove does not work clean and lubricate the motor, if it does not help - install a new one (there is not an original -Hella)
headlights are sweating - there is not enough ventilation or drain pipes are clogged clean the drain pipes, dry the headlight, if necessary, drill small ventilation holes (behind the headlight)

When choosing Q5, it is better to consider a diesel (less problematic engines, and even more so with "mechanics") version or a gasoline version with a "hydraulic converter" in 8 stages (since the end of 2012, they have installed a -ZF box, only DSG or "mechanics" on diesel engines) - the engine has already been upgraded (now it produces -225 hp), the main sores have been fixed (but it is better to check them before buying). About power unit 3.2 (V6) - little information, but most likely he is already eating up oil (due to his age, after restyling they stopped installing), the timing chain could stretch out - a mandatory diagnosis. For the US market, from 3.2, a 6-speed gearbox (torque converter) was put, but finding a well-groomed option is problematic. If the budget is only enough for the "first years of production" - choose only with dealer service, ask the dealer about repairs robotic box DSG, piston, timing chain replacement, etc.

Summary:

Since 2008, 2 types of transmissions have been installed on the Q5 model: a classic 8-speed automatic transmission with a ZF8HP55AF torque converter and a robotic S-Tronic 0B5 DL501 Dl382. We carry out maintenance, diagnostics and repair DSG boxes Audi Q5 in Moscow with a guarantee.

The DL-501 / DL-382 box was developed by VAG in collaboration with BorgWarner. This 7th stepped gearbox with two clutches is intended for models with a longitudinal engine and four-wheel drive Quattro.

When is the repair of the S-Tronic 0B5 (DSG 7) required?

All transmission problems on the Q5 can be divided into three main groups: hydraulic, electrical and mechanical.

HYDRAULICS

Problems with this part of the checkpoint are usually age-related. It is not known exactly what run they start from until the end. it depends on the operating conditions. Very often the source of problems is the oil pump, which are of two types (2008-2010 and later). The so-called first generation had a thick steel sleeve over which the compression rings run. Over time, a crack appeared between the oil supply channels to the clutches in the pump casing, which led to the simultaneous engagement of both clutches. This problem appeared at a time when the gearbox was warming up to an operating temperature of 90-110 gr.

EXAMPLE 1: when the car warms up, R stops working, cannot drive onto a curb or a hill reverse- the clutch slips and does not transmit the required torque. As a rule, there are no errors in electronic diagnostics.

What happens in this case: the appearance of oil pressure in the drive of both clutches when moving backward, in the absence of movement in the selector R position and the subsequent transfer of the selector to N, the car itself drives forward by 0.5–1.5 meters, the torque excess is about 50 Nm. In an effort to prevent this malfunction, BorgWarner engineers reduced the thickness of the steel bushing of the oil pump, thereby increasing the wall thickness of the pump itself. One problem went away, but a new one came. A thin bushing is deformed under constant local temperature action in such a way that a hump appears in the area of the clutch oil channels. As a result, as with a dorestyling pump, both clutches are partially closed during warming up.

EXAMPLE 2: jerks when switching in different modes, delays when turning on the gear in the selector position as D and R. Errors, as a rule, also do not happen.

Often the additional oil drain breaks off, resulting in insufficient cooling of the clutches. This leads to burning of the clutches and general overheating of the S-Tronic.

EXAMPLE 3: the appearance of a yellow gear on the dashboard, while the car is working properly.

Destruction of the seal inside the suction pump at the valve seat (metal ball). Leads to an increase in the operating temperature of the gearbox.

ELECTRONICS

EXAMPLE 1: some time after the start of the movement, errors appear (yellow gear on the panel). Sometimes the car moves normally at the same time, and at times it starts to switch hard or does not switch at all.

Error codes:

8023 or P173E 00 (175) - valve 1 in the gearbox part 1 - electrical fault
8040 or P17D8 00 (044) - limitation of the torque value due to the temperature of the coupling
8025 or P173F 00 (109) - valve 2 in the gearbox part 1 - electrical fault
8030 or P179D 00 (40) - oil cooling valve - electrical fault

Also, a common malfunction is associated with the sensor module, which combines the gear engaged sensor G676 and the input shaft speed senders G612 and G632. Like any Hall sensors that work in contact with hot oil, they fail. Replacement is possible only with disassembly of the gearbox housing (respectively, removal and installation of the gearbox), since one of the mounting bolts of the sensor module is inside.

EXAMPLE 2: when warming up, the yellow gear on the panel lights up, the car may stop moving and react to the gas pedal, after the ignition is turned off, the starter does not work. Also, often the value of the position of the selector does not correspond to its actual position. After turning off the ignition and waiting for about 15-30 minutes, the performance is restored. On electronic diagnostics, there may be the following errors:

8056 or P179F 00 (175) - gear engaged sensor - malfunction
8042 or P17C5 00 (101) - selector - invalid signal. With this malfunction, it is worth checking the adjustment of the selector cable
8056 or P179F 00 (040) - gear engaged sensor - malfunctions
8172 or P0919 00 (032) - selector - error

A malfunction of this sensor is diagnosed by a negative pressure value when the engine is not running, it will show - 0.5 bar or less. The fork travel sensors also use the Hall effect. In this case, you have to change the 0B5 ECU completely, since the board with sensors is not supplied separately. The worst thing is that the new ECU comes only complete with mechatronics. So a malfunction of the fork travel sensors actually means the purchase of the entire control unit. But DQDL will help you do without buying a new mechatronics assembly! Contact 🙂

It must be remembered that replacing the ECU requires removing the protection of electronic components, which has been activated for all Audi since 2008. Mechatronics ECU contains VIN of the car, therefore, when replacing the unit due to the mismatch of the number in the transmission unit and in on-board computer the machine box will only work in emergency mode. We are successfully replacing the ECU without Ingolsdat (provided that the native unit is communicating)! Contact 🙂

EXAMPLE 3: the yellow gear on the panel periodically lights up, while jerks and bumps can be observed when shifting gears (but not always), it is possible to jump over gears when shifting or driving on only one clutch out of two, when either even gears or only odd ones are working. Diagnostic errors:

10048, or P1765 00 (109) - pressure sensor in the hydraulic system G194 - adaptation limit reached.

MECHANICS

0B5

The mechanical part of 0B5 DL501 and DL382 is quite reliable and rarely requires attention up to 200-300 thousand km runs. If you still need to disassemble it, then you need to inspect the synchronizers, couplings, bearings and gears. But there are still problems with the mechanics, for example, wear of the front clutch support bearing and, as a result, the clutch cover. A significant backlash appears in the bearing itself, as well as in the clutch cover, since the outer bearing race begins to rotate in the cover, thereby wearing it out. This leads to misalignment of the clutch relative to the longitudinal axis and malfunction of the clutch compression rings, which in turn leads to disturbances in the oil supply to the clutches. The bearing and cover can be bought from us (as well as other spare parts) at 0B5.

EXAMPLE 1: jerks when switching (in different gears), as well as delays when switching to "D" or "R", the rear disappears when the gearbox is warmed up. Typically, electronic diagnostics have the following errors:

8093 or P176A 00 (032) - gear selector 1 is not adjustable
8092 or P176С 00 (175) - gear selector 3 is not adjustable

These malfunctions appear when the clutch starts to "lead", that is, there is a simultaneous slight closure of both clutches, which prevents the mechatronics from engaging the desired gear under certain conditions. In addition, there is an interlocking clutch malfunction due to wear, aging or overheating. In this case, the clutch is not able to transmit the maximum torque and slips.

EXAMPLE 2: the car goes into emergency mode, while overshooting occurs when switching (more often with active driving). Significant impacts may occur when drive and reverse are turned on. According to electronic diagnostics, the following errors are usually:

8962 or P17D7 00 (032) - clutch 1/2 - too much pressure
8960 or P17D5 00 (044) - valve 3 in the gearbox part - mechanical failure
8350 or P060A (101) - control unit - internal process control.

In principle, these are the most common problems with which people come to the DQDL club service to repair the Audi Q5 DSG box.

Work examples

Audi Q5 2.0T 2012 0B5 DL501 with DSG7 (S-Tronic) was brought on the tow truck

The car did not move - there was an error in the sensor module (selector) which is located in the mechanical part of the automatic transmission. It was also found by parameters that the clutch has critical wear.

The box was removed from the car and disassembled for further troubleshooting. Disassembly showed a burnt clutch and mechatronics clogged with wear products.

The checkpoint is completely disassembled and washed. Replaced sensor module, clutch, mechatronics repaired. Test debugging and the car returned to the owner.

Q5 3.2 2009 0B5 DL501 - kicks, jerks when shifting, increased vibration when starting to move back

Incoming diagnostics showed that the clutch had burned out, and as a result, the mechatronic device needed repair.

The burned-out clutch itself ruined the mechatronics with its wear products - which entailed kicks when shifting gears. The clutch was replaced and the mechatronic 0V5 was repaired.
