Toyota Rav 4 years of configuration. Fourth generation Toyota RAV4. Technical characteristics of Toyota RAV4

On February 1, 2013, applications for the new generation of Toyota RAV4 crossover officially began. The “Fourth RAV4” has noticeably changed, receiving a fresh look, a more comfortable interior and, of course, a completely new technical filling.

Yes, by the way, the appearance of the car in the fourth generation has changed dramatically. From now on, the RAV4 is much more modern, prettier and more aggressive, and this car will undoubtedly appeal not only to young people, but also to middle-aged men who want to stand out on the road.

The body of the fourth generation Toyota RAV4 is made of several light grades of steel, which made it possible to reduce the weight of the car. In addition, the body design uses several technological solutions to improve air flow distribution, significantly reducing the aerodynamic drag coefficient.

The front end is made in a new style with narrow headlights and a two-component bumper with complex terrain. At the back, there is finally a modern door that opens upwards, and not to the side, as before. We also note the stylish lights of an unusual shape and a neat small bumper.

The dimensions of the crossover have grown slightly (except for height): 4570x1845x1670 mm, while wheelbase remained the same - 2660 mm.

Inside the RAV4 crossover fourth generation also changed for the better. There are higher quality finishing materials all around, borrowed from the Camry and having several options for the buyer to choose from.

The front panel has become much more elegant, acquired “cosmic” and even futuristic elements that improve overall ergonomics. The center console has become more massive, and the steering wheel has gained additional functionality. As for the free space, there is a little more of it, but the competitors still look more attractive in this component.

The new rear seats have learned to fold compactly in a 60:40 ratio, increasing the luggage compartment volume to 1,705 liters from the base 577.

Specifications. IN Russia Toyota The RAV4 is available with two powerful gasoline engines and one powerful diesel powertrain. The range of gearboxes is also very wide, including all possible options: 6-speed manual, 6-speed automatic and ultra-modern continuously variable variator Multidrive S (which for the first time will be available for front-wheel drive trim levels). But let's get back to the engines:

  • The youngest among gasoline units is now a two-liter engine with four cylinders, each of which has four DOHC valves. The timing mechanism has a chain drive and two VVT-i camshafts. The power of this power unit reaches 145 hp. or 107 kW at 6200 rpm. Peak torque occurs at 187 Nm at 3600 rpm, which makes it possible to easily accelerate the crossover from 0 to 100 km/h in just 10.2 seconds. Concerning maximum speed car with this engine under the hood, then it is 180 km/h regardless of the type of gearbox installed. By the way, the “two-liter” is combined with a “mechanics” and a variator, and front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive variations of the crossover are available. The manufacturer recommends using AI-95 gasoline as fuel, and the engine’s efficiency fully meets modern requirements: in city mode it’s about 10 liters per 100 km, on the highway – 6.5 liters, and in mixed driving mode the consumption will be exactly 8 liters.
  • Second gasoline engine for the IV-generation RAV4 there is also a four-cylinder engine with a displacement of 2.5 liters. Like the junior engine, the flagship is equipped with a 16-valve DOHC system and two VVT-i camshafts with a chain drive. The maximum power of this engine reaches 179 hp. or 132 kW at 6000 rpm. The peak torque of the engine is increased to 233 Nm at 4100 rpm, which also allows you to reach a top speed of 180 km/h or raise the needle from 0 to the first 100 km/h on the speedometer in 9.4 seconds. There is a restriction on the gearbox; this power unit is equipped only with an automatic transmission, accompanied by an all-wheel drive system. As far as efficiency is concerned, in this case average consumption increases slightly: 11.4 liters in the city, 6.8 liters on the highway and 8.5 liters in mixed driving mode.
  • The only four-cylinder diesel engine, the D-4D, has a displacement of 2.2 liters and 150 hp. (110 kW) maximum power, which develops at 3600 rpm. Like gasoline units, this engine is equipped with a 16-valve DOHC system and two VVT-i camshafts controlled by a timing chain drive. The performance of the diesel engine is very high, because the peak torque is reached at 2000 - 2800 rpm and is 340 Nm, which guarantees the crossover acceleration to a maximum of 185 km/h, while the acceleration dynamics are very decent: from 0 to 100 km/h the car accelerates only in 10 seconds. Like the petrol flagship, the only diesel comes with only automatic transmission and is complemented by an all-wheel drive system. The diesel engine is very economical: the average fuel consumption in mixed driving mode should be about 6.5 liters, although the manufacturer has not yet published data on consumption in city mode and on the highway.

It’s worth saying a few words about the all-wheel drive system used on the fourth generation Toyota RAV4. All electronic components were developed practically from scratch, significantly increasing the intelligence of the entire system, which should improve the off-road qualities of the car, but whether this has a positive effect will only be shown by the first official tests in Russia, which, unfortunately, have not yet been carried out. For now, let’s add that the all-wheel drive is not permanent, but is connected as needed using an electromagnetic clutch and can be forcibly distributed in a 50:50 ratio. In standard operating mode, torque is automatically redistributed between the wheels that have the best grip. Manages all-wheel drive Dynamic Torque Control All-Wheel Drive (AWD) system with three operating modes: Auto, Lock and Sport.

The developers decided not to change the independent suspension, only slightly adjusting its settings, thereby improving the smoothness of passing road obstacles in the form of eternal Russian potholes and holes. MacPherson struts are used at the front and double struts at the rear. wishbones. The car chassis itself has improved significantly, becoming much stiffer. Steering complemented by electric power steering with new, more precise settings.

From electronic systems security going to basic configuration, the RAV4 is equipped with: ABS, EBD, Brake Assist (BAS), Hill Start Assist Control (HAC), Traction Control (TRC), VSC+ Stability Control, Hill Descent Control (DAC) and Dynamic Control System (IDDS), available in all-wheel drive versions. Standard driver and passenger safety kit includes two front and two side airbags, a driver knee airbag and two side curtain airbags.

Options and prices 2015 Toyota RAV4. For Russia, the manufacturer offers a very wide range of trim levels: Classic, Standard, Comfort and Comfort Plus, Elegance Plus and Prestige Plus.
The basic “Classic” configuration with a manual transmission and front-wheel drive will cost the buyer 1,255,000 rubles, and the all-wheel drive version with a CVT (in the “Standard” configuration) will cost 1,487,000 rubles. The upper price threshold for the “fourth RAV4” is designated by the Prestige Plus package with a gasoline flagship under the hood, all-wheel drive and automatic transmission - 1,948 thousand rubles, while the diesel version will cost a slightly lower price - 1,936,000 rubles.

Perhaps the most anticipated new product of late has been the 2013 Toyota RAV 4. After all, this crossover managed to become truly iconic, which almost all automakers looked up to. However, the appearance of the new car caused a mixed reaction from the owners of previous Rafiks and contributed to the emergence of a whole cohort of fans of the new product. What revolutionary happened in the “veteran of parquet battles”

Appearance

Perhaps, RAV 4 2013 can rightfully be called a “stereotype destroyer.” The previous car's design demonstrated rounded lines, compact dimensions and was considered a completely peaceful family crossover. No wonder he was so loved by the fair sex. The newcomer has left practically nothing in itself from its predecessor, from significantly increased dimensions to a sharp and even aggressive design.

Predatory “squint” of headlights with LED filaments running lights in the style of the Toyota Auris hatchback, broken lines in the front bumper area, sharp edges rear lights– all this suggests that the car has become much more “masculine” in appearance. However, it cannot be called unambiguously sporty - the rather heavy silhouette somewhat conceals the dynamism of the body's stampings.

Introducing the Toyota RAV4 2013, Japanese marketers showed in every possible way that from now on they want to shift the focus of the consumer audience to the area of comfort, practicality and “family” characteristics. To a large extent, they succeeded.

Interior

The interior of the RAV4 is not at all reminiscent of the previous generation car. No, the main “highlight” in the form of a “two-story” central console has been preserved, but now the front panel demonstrates manufacturability and geometric precision of lines. Metallized plastic, comfortable steering wheel and a center console trimmed with leatherette create the effect of being in a more “status” car. However, design experiments did not in any way affect the ergonomics, which, as before, remains one of the best in the class.

When you get into the cabin of the new Toyota RAV 4, you immediately notice the more comfortable seats and steering wheel. At the same time, thanks to the abundance of adjustments, a person of any size can easily fit in the driver’s seat. In addition, thanks to the increased wheelbase of the RAV4, which now amounts to 2660 mm, complete comfort for rear passengers is ensured, and a trunk with a capacity of 506 liters, coupled with the ability to fold out the rear seat, allows you to transport almost any cargo.

It is also important that when designing the 2013 RAV 4, engineers paid maximum attention to safety - the most equipped versions offer every conceivable safety system, including side airbags and inflatable “curtains” on the side windows.

Specifications

The new generation 2013 RAV4 is equipped with three powertrains and the same number of transmission options. The simplest version of the crossover is available with front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive and a two-liter gasoline engine with 146 horsepower, paired with a six-speed manual or CVT.

  • In addition to the “basic” one, a more powerful 2.5-liter 180-horsepower version is available, which is combined only with a six-speed automatic transmission.
  • Well, for lovers of diesel versions, the 150-horsepower 2.2-liter diesel engine, which is also only available with an automatic transmission, is perfect.
  • However, if you look for new Toyota RAV 4 2013 with front-wheel drive, you will have to take only the “weakest” two-liter version.

Options and prices

The 2013 Rav4 is already available in Russian dealerships. Prices have increased slightly compared to the previous generation model, although the car has become significantly larger and more comfortable than its predecessor. In the domestic market for Toyota RAV 4 2013, the price is as follows:

  • The additional payment for metallic color will be 13 thousand rubles.
  • The additional payment for the “mother of pearl” color will be 19 thousand rubles.

The original design largely determines the desire of many Russian consumers to buy Toyota RAV 4 in Moscow from official dealer. The principle of high technology is key when creating this vehicle. Thanks to the use of composite materials and unique engineering solutions, the car body looks very sporty and shows a 10% reduction in weight.

At the Major dealership, the Toyota Rav 4 model is available with various variants of unit layouts. The competitive advantage of these cars is their refined handling, which the manufacturer managed to achieve thanks to the intelligent dynamic control system IDDS, which provides optimal traction. Thanks to the perfectly designed all-wheel drive, the technical characteristics of the Toyota RAV 4 are impeccable and allow owners to feel confident on any route.

Thanks to the increased cabin comfort, users can enjoy every moment on the road. Numerous innovations for safety and special operating convenience are already available as standard. AND Toyota prices Rav 4s are quite acceptable.

Model: Toyota RAV4

Year: 2013 Price: from 998,000 rubles Rating:

Briefly:

There is no long-wheelbase version, the interior is cramped than competitors.

Nowadays, small families, when choosing a car, are inclined to decide to buy a crossover instead of a traditional sedan. And this choice is easy to understand, because it is crossovers that offer such a tempting mixture of comfort, roominess, handling and increased cross-country ability - even to the dacha with the whole family, even on vacation - a crossover is capable of everything (read our article). And manufacturers never tire of stirring up interest in their new “money” babies (we have already told you how manufacturers do it) by releasing constant model updates.

Design

The new RAV 4 is 123 mm longer than the previous generation in the standard wheelbase version, however, the actual increase in the cabin is not noticeable. Also, having slightly increased in width, the car became 25 mm lower than its predecessor, reducing the headroom of passengers.

The nose and rear design of the RAV4 has undergone radical changes. Toyota says that the design of the crossover has now become more expressive and emotional, and in some ways, more aggressive. And all this is to give the crossover individuality and recognition. In general, we agree with the manufacturer and add that the new RAV4 has absorbed the design spirit of the entire new Toyota line - for example, head optics like the new Camry and an integrated rear spoiler like the .

Also, it’s no secret that all previous generations of Toyota RAV4 were a real stronghold of a “women’s car”, however, nothing similar can be said about the 2013 model - the chrome parts of the radiator grille in combination with the fang-shaped features of the front bumper create a predatory look, a little less dynamic than the Mazda CX5, but clearly more attractive to the buyer than the angular one Honda CR-V.

Engines and transmission

The most powerful in the line Toyota engines The 2013 RAV4 will be a 2.5-liter four-cylinder with 180 horsepower gasoline unit, which works stably and confidently when paired with a responsive six-speed automatic transmission gears (Elegance Plus and Prestige Plus configurations). Also among the engine options is a 2.0-liter four-cylinder petrol engine with 146 hp. and a 2.2-liter diesel with a power of 150 hp. Available transmission options, in addition to the aforementioned completely new 6-speed. Automatic transmission, 6-speed Manual transmission and Multidrive S CVT.

Luckily, we had a top-notch one in our hands Toyota equipment RAV4 2013 “Prestige Plus” with a 2.5-liter gasoline engine, automatic transmission and 17-inch alloy wheels, price from 1,543,000 rubles.

The driver has two new driving modes at his disposal that regulate engine response, gear ratios boxes and steering sensitivity. One of the modes offers maximum fuel economy, while the other provides maximum dynamism.

The economical mode can safely be called “slow-witted” - when it is activated, a strong feeling appears, as if the car is moving against a strong wind. Throttle response is dulled, and the effectiveness of climate control is strictly limited to the specified limits - all to save fuel. This mode is especially annoying in jerky city traffic with frequent stops and sudden starts - it’s high time to accelerate, but the car resists this as best it can.

On paper, the fuel consumption of the 2013 RAV 4 is 9.4 l/100 km in the city and 6.3 l/100 km on the highway, which is better than the 10.2/7.6 l/100 km of the CR-V, but clearly inferior to 9 and 6.7 l/100 km at Mazda CX-5.

Sports mode- the exact opposite of Economical. When you touch the gas pedal, all the power of the engine instantly falls on the wheels, and the gears become sportily short. The system also modifies steering behavior, reducing interference electric amplifier for a more complete feeling of the road. Sport mode allows you to truly enjoy driving the crossover.

For comparison, we drove a year-old 2.0-liter RAV4, and although we didn't notice a clear increase in power, comfort was clearly improved - the suspension absorbed road imperfections without leaving a trace, providing a calm, smooth ride. Toyota says the new windshield is designed specifically to reduce cabin noise, which we can attest to - we weren't bothered by wind noise. However, road noise is difficult to ignore, and the engine is hardly whisper-quiet, especially during acceleration.

Salon

Everyone knows that the interior of the previous RAV4 was not bad, but nothing special. Toyota adheres to the same line in the new product - minor improvements have been made in terms of materials, however, hard plastic could not be eradicated; it remains even on the door armrests. The only soft spots in the 2013 RAV4's cabin are the protruding parts. dashboard and the center console armrest.

Undoubtedly, engineers worked on the ergonomics and interior design, making it more modern, attractive and comfortable. The previous RAV4's climate control buttons have been replaced with large, easy-to-read rotary switches that have been moved a little closer to the driver for convenience. There's a new long vent in the middle of the dash, which Toyota says is designed to heat/cool the rear cabin faster.

The multimedia and navigation system seems to have simply been carried over from the previous generation, having acquired a 6.1-inch touch screen. A multifunctional LCD display is installed in all configurations except the initial “Standard” and “Standard Plus”. Bluetooth is included as standard equipment on all trims.

Both top trim levels have a navigation system in Russian. Note that it is quite easy to use, although it does not have the most logical menu - instead of a separate button that launches navigation and gives access to maps and routes, all this is hidden in the “Applications” menu. The screen size of 6.1 inches, however, seems too small for full comfortable use of navigation.

Passenger comfort and trunk

Inside the RAV4 2013, four adult passengers of average build (including the driver) can fit without difficulty or discomfort. The rear seats are noticeably firmer and not as “lush” as the front ones, however, there is nothing uncomfortable about them. Although the crossover is called a five-seater, in the middle of the second row an adult is unlikely to be capable of a long trip - the middle seat is too narrow for an adult.

Armed with numbers (interior dimensions), we can conclude that the RAV4 is far from being a champion in interior space, but simply average - Ford Kuga offers the largest legroom for the front passenger. The Mazda CX-5 takes the lead when it comes to rear legroom.

Now, about the obvious shortcomings of the RAV 4 interior. In the previous generation, the second-row seats could be folded and slid back and forth on rails to increase either trunk volume or space for passengers in the second row. In the new 2013 RAV 4 model, the rear seats can only be folded. The old model of the compact Toyota crossover had such a convenient thing in the trunk as a pair of levers for folding the rear seats, but in the new generation they disappeared without a trace. Yes, the seats still fold quite easily (in a 60/40 split), but the folding levers are extremely awkwardly located. The CR-V and CX-5, on the other hand, have one convenient knob for controlling the position of the rear seats.

Since Toyota got rid of the long-wheelbase version of the RAV4 (explaining this by the fact that only 5% of the total number of people who decided to buy a RAV4 inclined their choice in favor of the long-wheelbase version), the optional third row of seats disappeared in the new generation. Of course, they were designed for children, and even very young ones, but this, undoubtedly, made the crossover less universal.

The maximum achievable trunk volume of the new RAV4 (with the second row of seats folded) is 2078 liters, which on paper is slightly higher than its predecessor (2067 liters), but in reality this is not noticeable. True, in any case, in terms of trunk volume, the Toyota crossover is ahead of the Honda CR-V (2007 liters), Ford Kuga (1919 liters) and CX-5 (1851 liters). In the case of raised rear seats, the situation remains the same - albeit a little , but the Toyota trunk is larger.

In general, the trunk of the new RAV4 has become very convenient; the height of its floor above the ground is the lowest in its class, which is very convenient when loading. Also, the swing door has given way to a more convenient one that tilts up. The spare wheel has moved from the rear door under the trunk floor to a specially designated compartment.

Toyota RAV4 configurations and prices

The new 2013 RAV4 is available in eight trim levels. Front wheel drive new crossover with a 2-liter engine and 6-speed manual transmission can be purchased for 998,000 rubles. All-wheel drive will cost 1,135,000 rubles, albeit with a CVT. An all-wheel drive (and there are no front-wheel drive) Honda-CRV manually with a 2-liter engine costs a little more - from 1,149,000 rubles. The front-wheel drive Mazda CX-5 is recognized as the budget leader of this trio - a 2-liter version with a 6-speed manual transmission. Manual transmission starts from only 949,000 rubles.

Safety

The 2013 RAV4 has not yet been tested for safety by either the European or American associations, however, the manufacturer proudly states that the crossover was designed to receive 5 stars in any crash test.

The basic equipment for all trim levels includes 4 front airbags, 2 curtain airbags and a driver's knee airbag. A blind spot monitoring system and a lane change warning system are available only on the most expensive trim levels (such luxuries are not standard in this class of car).

Retractable headrests rear seats will help maintain visibility to the rear, and large side mirrors reduce blind spots.

Conclusion

Without a doubt, the new RAV4 will be popular, because it comes out at a time when even the previous model remains one of the top sellers in its class compact crossovers. But is it really necessary to replace the previous RAV4 with a new generation? Is the game worth the candle? Yes, the 2013 RAV4 is not bad, very good, and its position in the market will be solid. But the previous generation remains just as good, and in some ways the new product is completely inferior to its predecessor.

The advantages of the RAV 4 2013 include a more efficient transmission and greater travel comfort. On the other side of the scale is the lack of a long-wheelbase version and the cabin is far from being a champion in terms of spaciousness. Apparently, Toyota decided to focus on trunk volume, because the generous set of equipment included in the base looks, of course, very attractive, however, competitors are also not asleep, and compared to them, the RAV4 2013 does not at all look like a qualitative leap forward.

We give this car a full 4 stars with a clear conscience - brands and expectations aside, this is a truly quality product. Yes, knowing all the capabilities of Toyota, we expected more from the RAV4 2013, but this is just psychology and the specifics of perception.

It all started in 1989 at the Tokyo Motor Show, when the Toyota RAV Four concept car was shown, which contained the idea of creating an all-wheel drive compact car to move around the city and go into nature. The idea was developed in 1994 in Geneva at a motor show.
