The VAZ-2107 car is the latest model produced by AvtoVAZ according to the so-called classic layout, when the car was driven to the rear wheels.

And since most of our motorists still prefer rear-wheel drive cars, the 2107 is still a popular car among the people.

The chassis of any car includes two main components of the suspension: front and rear wheels.

If we take into account the front suspension of the VAZ-2107, then it is more reliable than that of the VAZ-2108.

But at the same time, due to the same drive, the rear suspension is more complex, which means that there is a greater likelihood of a malfunction.

Front suspension device

The front suspension of the VAZ-2107 is independent. It consists of two levers, one of which is located at the top, the second at the bottom, as well as a telescopic shock absorber and a coil spring. A stabilizer completes the design lateral stability.

The lower arm with its axle is rigidly attached to the suspension cross member using bolts. Itself is also rigidly attached to the front side members.

The upper arm is attached to the mudguard post. But the lever does not have its own axis; it is a long bolt passing through the rack.

So that the levers can rotate around the axis, rubber-metal hinges (silent blocks) are used.

Ball joints are installed at the ends of both levers, to which the rounded fist having a journal for installing the wheel hub.

The coil spring is placed between the mudguard post and the lower arm. To prevent the spring from moving from its place, its ends are installed in special support cups.

The hydraulic shock absorber is installed inside the spring. With its body, the shock absorber is attached to the lower arm using a rubber-metal hinge.

The shock absorber rod is attached to the car body through rubber cushions. The anti-roll bar is fixed with its ends on the lower suspension arms, and in the middle - to the side members.

To exclude direct contact of the stabilizer with the side members, rubber cushions are installed between them.

Suspension malfunctions

Front suspension malfunctions include wear of rubber parts of the suspension, wear of ball joints is also possible. It is not uncommon for shock absorbers and springs to fail during operation.

In most cases, repairs to the front suspension of a VAZ 2107 can be done at home. But for this, to begin with, you will need to conduct a visual inspection and diagnosis of her condition.

To do this, it is advisable to drive the car onto an overpass or inspection pit. During the inspection, the condition of all rubber parts is determined, the presence of gaps in the ball joints, the absence of oil leaks from the shock absorber and the integrity of the spring are checked.

Checking the shock absorber

You can check the performance of the shock absorber in a simple way. To do this, you need to put good pressure on the wing of the car from above so that the shock absorber compresses and then releases. The shock absorber should immediately return to its original position and no longer make any oscillatory movements.

If a malfunction or severe wear of parts is found, the suspension is repaired. Since most suspension parts are not repaired, they are simply replaced.

To make repairs, all you need is a set of keys and heads, a jack and, in some cases, pullers.

Ball joints

To replace the ball joints, you must first remove the wheel and clean the suspension parts of the dirt. Then the jack is placed on the lower arm, they begin to raise the car. This is done in order to load the suspension.

With a key, unscrew the nut of the ball joint pin, to start with the top. Then the support pin is pressed out of the steering knuckle.

After the finger comes out of the fist, you need to unscrew the fastening of the ball joint and remove it together with the protective cover from the upper lever.

In place of the old ball joint, a new one is put and the assembly is carried out in the reverse order.

The lower ball joint is changed in the same way as the upper one. After replacing all ball joints, you need to contact the service station to check and, if necessary, adjust the angles.

Front suspension arms

To change the silent blocks on a car, you will need, in addition to keys, a special puller for them.

But in the case of the upper arm, it will need to be removed from the car, while replacing the silent blocks of the lower arm will not require this.

To remove the upper arm, you will first need to press out the pin of its ball joint from the steering knuckle.

Then you need to remove the bumper bracket bolt. After that, the nuts securing the axle of the upper arm are unscrewed, and the axle is removed, and the upper arm is removed from the car.

After removing the lever with a puller, the worn out silent blocks are removed and new ones are put in their place with the same puller.

The lever is installed in the reverse order. But, in order to install the ball bearing pin in place, you will need to load the suspension using a jack installed under the lower arm.

As mentioned, you do not need to remove the lower arm to replace the rubber-metal hinges on the lower arm.

It is enough to unscrew the nuts of the lever axle and remove the hinges using a puller. After that, new nuts are installed in their place and tightened.

Remove the lower arm only if it is damaged. But this happens very rarely.

Shock absorbers

In case of failure of the shock absorber, it is replaced. Moreover, even if only one shock absorber is broken, the second is also replaced.

To change the shock absorber, you first need to unscrew the nut securing its rod. After that, the washers installed on it, as well as the upper rubber cushion, are removed from the rod. And if the shock absorber knocks, then the reason for this is possible.

Then you need to unscrew the lower shock absorber mounting bracket from the lower arm. The broken shock absorber is removed through the technological hole in the lever.

Then you need to remove the mounting bracket from it. Installing a new shock absorber is performed in reverse order.

Front suspension VAZ 2107

On any car brand, the front wheel suspension is more complex than the rear damping system. This is due to the fact that the front wheels are steering, and unlike the strictly directed rear wheels, they have freedom of directional movement. In general, the front suspension of the VAZ 2107 chassis is quite powerful. It is designed in such a way for the possibility of driving on roads that do not have an asphalt surface. After all, this car is the latest version of the so-called classic VAZ series. It is the cheapest in the price range, and therefore the most popular among rural residents.

Conventionally, the VAZ 2107 suspension can be divided into 4 nodes. Two triangular levers. The bases, both levers, are attached to the car body on movable mounts. Between the protruding tops of the "triangles-levers", a pivot lever connected to the steering is fixed by finger joints. Between the lower arm and the side member, a spring with a shock absorber inside passes through the opening of the upper arm.

To synchronize the suspension of the right and left sides, a lateral stability bar is installed between them, which, however, has decent freedom of position. It is attached to the lower arms. Basically, this is all a modification of the VAZ 2101 front suspension, then VAZ 2103, 2106. Preventive maintenance of the VAZ 2107 front suspension usually consists in replacing ball joints and rubber bushings.

Rear suspension VAZ 2107

The rear suspension of "classic" VAZ cars is directly connected to the rest of the chassis. In the rear suspension of the VAZ-2107, the driving rear axle is inscribed, which is connected to the car's engine through a cardan transmission and the rest of the transmission. The wheels are oriented strictly in the direction of the vehicle. These conditions determined the features of the rear suspension of the VAZ-2107. Like the front suspension, the rear is an upgraded version of the first VAZ model.

The figure below shows the rear suspension device of the VAZ-2107. Number 1 shows the thrust spring between the axle (4) and the vehicle body. Number 2, telescopic shock absorber damping sudden vibrations. Transverse reaction thrust 3, prevents the axle from shifting to the sides of the vehicle axis. Front suspension VAZ-2110

Like any VAZ suspension, the tens' front suspension is independent. The front suspension device of the VAZ-2110 is more complicated than that of the classic models. This is due to the fact that the drive of the power unit goes through the gearbox to the front wheels. Therefore, the designers of VAZ had to solve the issue of not only the distribution of the load by the suspension, but also not to let it interfere with the operation of the drive. Here, too, the whole scheme is the result of a phased modernization of the front suspension, from the first version of the front-wheel drive model VAZ-2108. This variation, as the most successful, remained in the variations following the "ten".

Front suspension device VAZ-2110

The suspension kit includes the following components:

  • lower arm;
  • hub;
  • spherical bearing;
  • telescopic stand with spring;
  • brake disk;
  • wheel drive;
  • stabilizing transverse bar (on both wheels);
  • suspension arm with stretching.

It is the telescopic rack that plays a special role here. Now they are produced in several types. Liquid and gas racks. The principle of operation of the rack is based on a gradual, rather than abrupt, movement of the working rod in the body. This is achieved by in-cylinder bypass valves on the inner rod. Depending on the medium that the valves are bypassed, the struts are divided into hydraulic (liquid on oil) and gas. Usually the manufacturer installs cheaper hydraulic struts. One of the tuning positions of the VAZ-2110 chassis is just the replacement of liquid struts with gas ones. They are more effective and give stability to movement at any speed.

Rear suspension VAZ-2110

Racks are also used here. But since there are no unnecessary problems in the image of the rear-wheel drive, everything is somewhat simpler. The rear suspension includes the following units and parts:



The carrier beam is fixed to the car body with a movable joint. That is, the beam has a relative freedom of movement, like a lid hinged downward. The spring and shock absorber successfully dampen sharp vibrations, eliminating sharp impacts of the beam on the body. The main malfunctions of the rear suspension system are usually also primarily the malfunctions of the shock absorber strut. Also wear of rubber expansion joints in movable joints.

Malfunctions of these components do not just cause discomfort from knocking. They contribute to the destruction of the body. A body repair pleasure is not cheap. It is better to replace the rubber grommet on the hinge or even the stand in a timely manner than to pay later bodywork.

The rear suspension of the Niva axle itself is identical to the design of conventional classic VAZ models. However, the moving parts have a little more freedom of movement and are manufactured with a large margin of safety for confident movement on terrain where there is no road surface. The new design element is the device of the brake drive pressure regulator. Depending on the position of the machine and rear axle, a lever attached to the axle controls the opening of the rear brake valve. The rest of the suspension differs only in mobility and strength.

Front suspension VAZ-2121

The front wheel suspension is a little more complicated. The front wheels are both driving and steering wheels. Here, too, a larger angle of free movement of moving parts is provided. Therefore, for stabilization, an elastic bar is installed, which is attached to the body. The upper and lower support arms are made in an A-shape and are more reminiscent of the paired suspension arms of a front-wheel drive car than the classics. Despite the apparent fragility of the structure, its strength exceeds the strength of the "classical" structure due to the material and the form of rigidity calculated thoroughly. As in other suspensions, here it is necessary to carefully monitor the condition of the rubber bushings and ball joints.

Telescopic suspension strut VAZ

Telescopic struts replaced conventional shock absorbers with the advent of front-wheel drive VAZ vehicles. They perform the function of not only a shock absorber in the suspension system, but are also an important element of the suspension frame. If the shock absorber only mitigates the jerks when hitting bumps or bumps, the suspension strut mounted with the spring also prevents the suspension parts from moving in different directions. Keeps the suspension arms in position.

Therefore, all its parts are made of materials that are stronger than the shock absorber. Therefore, the price of the rack is much higher.

The device and principle of operation of the telescopic suspension strut

In fact, the rack resembles a medical syringe. The body is the barrel of such a syringe. A rod with a piston at the end moves inside. Only in the absence of an outlet, the fluid in the hydraulic struts is usually the spindle oil, which, with the help of valves built into the piston, smoothly moves to the top when compressed. When stretched also

smoothly moves back. Unlike the shock absorber, the suspension strut housing is equipped with cups for mating with a shock absorber spring, which provides additional suspension stability. In addition, depending on the type of rack, the lower attachments of the body to the suspension arms are arranged differently. The strut is not a repairable suspension unit. In the event of a malfunction, it must only be replaced.

Important! When replacing the rack, the spring is reinstalled on it. This can be done only with the help of a special tool - a spring clamping puller, in order to avoid serious injuries.

Brake system of VAZ cars

On the VAZ prototype, Fiat 124, the designers installed a disc brake system. It is ideal for highways and highways, those that are called federal in modern Russia. However, at that time, there were no roads of this level in the USSR. The vast majority of roads were of poor quality, and did not represent the possibility of high-speed movement. And in conditions of low and medium speeds, disc brakes did not perform well. Therefore, the drum type was adopted, where the semicircular pads were unclenched by hydraulics and pressed against the walls of the drum over a large area. So it was customary to install drum brakes on the classics. They did not become wise by going to front-wheel drive... The first "chisels" VAZ-2108, and after them and 2109, were equipped exclusively with drums.

Switching to disc brakes

However, time passed, and the situation with the roads began to improve markedly, the speed limit increased. The drum brakes were already performing poorly. Installing a full disc braking system, however, meant completely eliminating the sale of new models to customers in peripheral areas, where many roads still leave much to be desired. The "Solomon's decision" was made - the rear brakes remained drum, and the front ones were put on discs. Since then, this formula has been fixed on the VAZ. The only exception is Lada Kalina Sport. This special speed model is equipped with brake discs from the factory.

Tuning chassis and suspension system VAZ

There are no special improvements in tuning the suspension of any brand. A common practice in this direction is to replace drum brakes with disc brakes. But this should be done in the event that a general modernization of the engine and gearbox has been carried out. It is possible to replace some units with products made of lighter and stronger, correspondingly more expensive, material. Another tuning position is the manipulation of the length of the springs. Some owners, striving to give their car the look of a sports car, cut off 1-2 turns from the spring. Others, those who expect to carry heavy loads, on the contrary, "lift" the car with the help of special cushions under the springs, and even buy non-standard ones, with a large number of turns. Both options are unsafe. When cutting, "understating", the car loses a decent amount of depreciation, the shock absorber strut breaks down faster. The body is destroyed, control is deteriorating. When the body is lifted, the machine becomes less stable at high speeds and the risk of overturning increases. In general, tuning a suspension requires careful thought and serious consultation.

What kind of malfunctions can the suspension have?

  • Drying and simple wear from time to time of rubber parts, anthers, liners, seals, the deterioration of ball bearings, wear of the cushions of the stability bar;
  • "Fatigue" of the metal, which can lead to breakage of springs and shock absorbers.

The front suspension, unlike the engine, was more fortunate, since it is easier to carry out repairs in a home garage, and the design of the suspension is open. This requires a flyover or an ordinary observation pit.

What can you tell when examining the suspension?

  • The state of wear, crumbling, dryness of all rubber parts;
  • It is determined how dry the shock absorber is and whether there is oil leakage from it, as well as evaluate its work. The test scheme is simple: you need to press sharply on the surface of the car wing and remove the load, that is, "release it sharply." A serviceable shock absorber returns the wing upward in one pass, without additional oscillation.
  • The integrity of all coils of the springs on the right and left sides;
  • The clearance in the ball joints is determined.

Replacing ball joints

The scheme of work (like all others) begins with cleaning the parts from dried dirt. It is necessary to make it a rule to clean all the elements at the bottom of the car, before starting diagnostics and repairs. It is most convenient to do this first with a jet of water from a nozzle of a portable car wash, and then dry it with compressed air.

To replace the ball joints, first remove the VAZ 2107 wheels.

The jacks for loading the lower part of the suspension rest against the lower arm, simulating the "load" on the suspension.

  • Unscrew the ball pin nut (for example, the top one).
  • A special rammer is used to separate the steering knuckle and the support pin;
  • The ball joint is turned out and removed in a protective case.
  • A new support is placed and assembly is carried out in the reverse order.

The lower support is also replaced. After that, the car is jacked up on the other side and the ball joints on the other side of the suspension are replaced.

After that, it is necessary to adjust the wheel alignment, this must be done at a service station at a special stand.

Silent - blocks.

Recall that the silent block is a connecting element in the VAZ 2107 suspension, as well as any other "classics" that has an elastic insert made of polyurethane or rubber in order to soften suspension shocks and vibrations. These parts absorb large shock loads.

Replacing shock absorbers

The shock absorber is a non-separable pair part. That is, if one of them fails, then both change.

  • We unscrew the fastening nut on the rod;
  • Remove the washers together with the upper cushion made of rubber;
  • We turn off the bracket with which the shock absorber is connected to the lower arm;
  • A broken shock absorber can be removed through the slot in the lever housing;
  • The bracket is removed from the shock absorber and a new shock absorber is installed in the reverse order.

Replacing a broken spring

To replace the spring (which also cannot be repaired), you need to remove the shock absorber, disconnect it from the lateral stability bar. After that, you need to loosen the screws of the lower lever, after which it is jacked up, then using a special puller we remove the ball finger.

VAZ 2107 in the original looks rather modest. The dynamic characteristics of the car are just as modest. Therefore, many car owners modify and improve almost all components and systems of the car: changes appearance, the interior becomes more comfortable, the engine power increases, etc.

Radical tuning of the VAZ 2107

You can use tuning to transform a serial sedan that rolled off the assembly line at the beginning of the 21st century into a car that vaguely resembles the original. Examples of professional tuning can be seen at various international competitions, for participation in which cars are specially altered and modified.

Tuning concept

The term tuning literally translates from English as tuning or adjustment. Any car can be tuned to such an extent that it becomes unrecognizable. Each owner modifies his VAZ 2107 in his own way, determining individually which components and parts need modification.

Before starting tuning both the car as a whole, and any component part, it is important to understand a number of simple requirements. The modernization of the machine must not contradict the Russian legislation and regulations. road traffic(SDA). Windshield tinting

In accordance with the traffic rules, it is recommended to tint the windshield only at the top with a lane width of no more than 14 cm. This will protect the driver's eyes from the sun's rays. For tinting you will need:

  • tint film 3 m long and 0.5 m wide;
  • glass detergent or shampoo;
  • rubber scraper to remove water;
  • nonwoven napkins;
  • marker;
  • a sharp thin knife (clerical can be used);
  • roulette;
  • spray bottle.

The tinting process itself is carried out as follows.

  1. The windshield is removed from the body and released from the sealing rubber.
  2. The glass is transferred to a bright, clean corner of the room, where there is no dust.
  3. The glass on both sides is thoroughly washed with soapy water. Stubborn dirt can be removed with a solvent.
  4. The tint film is applied to the outside of the glass and outlined with a marker with a tolerance of 5–7 mm.
  5. The film is cut along the line with a sharp knife.
  6. The protective layer is removed from the film.
  7. The surfaces of the glass and the adhesive side of the film are moistened with soapy water.
  8. The film is applied to a clean, damp surface. In this case, the formation of horizontal folds should be avoided.
  9. The film is gently pressed with a plastic or rubber scraper from the center of the strip to the edges. Wrinkles are smoothed out at the same time. At the same time, it is advisable to warm up the film with a construction hairdryer. There should be no bubbles between the film and the glass. If they appear, they should be driven out with a scraper to the side that has not yet been glued, or pierced with a thin needle.
  10. The glass is dried for several hours and installed on the car.

Headlight tuning

The most simple and affordable way tuning the headlights and rear lights of the VAZ 2107 is the replacement of standard bulbs with LED ones.

To do this, they usually use a special tape with spotlights glued to it. Thus, you can make original running lights, angel eyes, etc. You can also purchase already tuned front and fog lights and taillights from car dealerships.

Rear window tinting and decorative grille installation

If the car owner does not have experience in tinting, it is advisable to purchase the cheapest film for darkening. For rear window there are no restrictions on light transmission. Tinting is carried out without dismantling the glass, since it is glued to the sealing rubber. The work will require the same materials and tools as for the windshield. The film is glued from the inside in the following order.

  1. The glass is washed with soapy water, and stubborn dirt is removed with a solvent.
  2. The tint film is applied to the outer damp side of the glass.
  3. The tinting is given the shape of the glass. To do this, the film is pressed against the glass and smoothed out under a stream of warm air from a building hair dryer. In order not to overheat the tint, the air temperature should not be too high. The hair dryer moves along the entire surface of the film, stopping in each place for 2-3 seconds.
  4. The protective layer is removed from the tint film, and it is glued from the interior to the damp inner side glass. Since the film has taken the form of glass, it should fit snugly enough. Water from the tinting is expelled using a scraper.

Sometimes, instead of tinting, a decorative grill made of two-millimeter plastic is installed on the rear window, which can be purchased at a car dealership. For ease of installation, it consists of two halves and is easily attached to the rear window rubber seal from the outside. The grille can be painted to match the color of the car or left as is.

Installation of roll cage

The installation of a safety cage will help to protect the driver and passengers of the VAZ 2107 in extreme situations. The installation work of the frame is rather complicated. In order not to violate the geometry of the body, careful observation of dimensions, welding and fitting of pipes in the cabin using a hand-held power tool will be required.
