Description CHEVROLET BLAZER. Description CHEVROLET BLAZER Chevrolet Blazer 1998 technical specifications

The Chevrolet Blazer was produced in two different models. One of them was introduced in 1982 and was called the Blazer S10. At the core of this car lies the body of a Chevrolet S10 pickup truck. The difference was that the Blazer C/K series was a 5-door, and the Blazer S10 was a 3-door. The Chevrolet Blazer S10 had a choice of 2.5, 2.8 and 4.3 liter engines.

In 1991, the Blazer S10 was restyled. The result was a model with five doors, and a 4.3-liter engine remained under the hood. In 1993, the car was slightly renamed Blazer S. Again in 1994, they decided to “erase” the letter “S”. The result is a Chevrolet Blazer. It was produced in a version with 3 or 5 doors and a 4.3 liter engine. and output power of 193 hp.

In 1995, the Chevrolet Blazer was released, which was aimed at the market South America(made in Brazil). This car had a different appearance and engines: gasoline engines with a volume of 2.2/4.3 liters. with a power of 113/179 hp, as well as a 2.5-liter diesel with a power of 95 hp.

Cars intended for the US market can be distinguished by a “predatory” radiator grille and a powerful engine with a displacement of 4.3 and a power of 193 hp. The data sheet states that acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h occurs in 10.1 seconds, and reaches speeds of up to 180 km/h.

The design of the “Brazilian” SUVs is slightly different, and the equipment is also different. An engine with a volume of 2.2 or 4.3 liters and 116 and 179 hp was installed on it. respectively

Corrosion is very rare on the second generation Blazer. The car is based on a powerful frame made of fairly high-quality metal.

The interior design is made in American style. The interior does not boast of itself, there are no designer delights, but everything is done conveniently and simply. Most American Blazers come in leather trim.

The trunk volume is decent, you can get 2100 cm?, with the rear seats folded down in the five-door version - a real truck. Places on back seat comfortable. The SUV has good sound insulation and excellent ride comfort.

The Blazer comes with power windows and mirrors, and often also comes with power seats.

In early 2001 it was shown in the USA new SUV, which was based on the Blazer - TrialBlazer.

Chevrolet Blazer II – two- or four-door all-wheel drive SUV, produced by General Motors from 1995 to 2012. At different times, the model was assembled at factories in America, Brazil, Venezuela, Indonesia and even Russia.

Story

The second generation of the SUV was presented by the American manufacturer in 2005, and in the same year it began mass production. From previous generation new Chevrolet The blazer featured increased sizes and a redesigned design. The first batches of cars began to leave factories in Brazil and America.

Later, the geography of production of the second generation model expanded, and at the end of 1996, Blazer II also began to be assembled at the plant in Elabuga in Tatarstan. General Motors do Brasil factories supplied car kits, which were practically finished cars, only without bumpers, lights, mirrors, seats and other little things. These parts, neatly packed, lay in the cabin. At that time, only rubber mats and jacks were Russian. True, two years later the assembly had to be curtailed: sales of the Blazer II of Brazilian-Tatar production were not at all high level, plus the financial crisis in Russia was added to this.

Three years after its launch, the model was updated. The changes affected both the interior and exterior of the car: a new instrument panel, headrests for rear passengers, and different door handles.

After that, the model was updated annually: rear-view mirrors, bumpers and dashboard. The American manufacturer did not propose any significant technical changes.

In 2001, in America, the company showed its new model - which replaced the Blaizer model in the manufacturer’s line. However, production of Blaizer II continued in Brazil for quite a long time - until 2012.

Technical features

The SUV had rich equipment. IN basic equipment The model included electrically adjustable windows and rear-view mirrors, electrically adjustable seats, headlight washers, an automatically dimming interior mirror, an air conditioning system and an all-wheel drive system with the ability to change settings and transmission modes.

The second generation Chevrolet Blazer SUV was equipped with only one power unit- petrol V-shaped “six” with a volume of 4.3 liters.

The chain-driven V6 engine (the chain lasts a very long time) is renowned for its reliability, and its design has long been proven in many Chevrolet models. At correct operation it can withstand more than 500 thousand km.

The Blazer's trunk volume is quite decent, and if you fold the back seat (in whole or in parts), you can get a whole cargo area that can accommodate up to two cubic meters of cargo. In addition, there are four metal eyelets in the floor that can be used to easily secure large items. There is also plenty of space in the back seat. The SUV has good sound insulation and a decent ride.

Advantages over competitors

The Chevrolet Blazer is a workhorse, a typical American SUV - large and gluttonous. Its main advantages over competitors (such as the Jeep Grand Cherokee or Ford Explorer) are a huge trunk, excellent corrosion resistance (the body is completely galvanized), a powerful engine and an almost indestructible suspension. In addition, many owners cited the original appearance of the car and the interior, designed in the style of models of the 80s, as advantages.

In the Indonesian market, the SUV was offered with an “exclusive” 2.2 liter 4-cylinder in-line petrol engine. Later, production began with the same engine in Russia, but from low-power engine it was soon decided to abandon it, replacing it with the main 4.3-liter unit.

One of the meanings of the word blazer translated from English is “jacket, sports jacket.” There is a version that the creators of this model associated the car with a kind of “clothing” in which you can both comfortably drive out of town and appear in high society without shame.

In different markets, the model was also called GMC Jimmy and Opel Blazer.

Numbers and awards

In 2005, the SUV was awarded the title of “Truck of the Year.” True, he received this honor not from the automobile publication, but from Playboy magazine.

Production of the model in Russia began shortly before the default in 1998. Naturally, this had the most negative impact on car sales: about 2.5 thousand cars were produced during the year, but by the end of the year almost half of them remained unsold. Between January and May 1999, only 22 Trailblazers were sold in Russia.

Reviews from Chevrolet Blazer owners

Chevrolet Blazer, 1995

My driving experience is almost 15 years, and during all this time I have had different cars, but mostly vases. By the time I bought the Chevrolet Blazer, I had been dreaming of an SUV for a long time. One employee who worked with me at the time drove a Blazer. And so I took a closer look at it and realized that this is exactly the car I want to buy. Of course, I didn’t have money for a new one, so I studied offers for used cars on the Internet. I chose it, bought it, and was satisfied. The car is large and roomy – both the interior and the trunk. If you want to transport a lot of people, please, you need to deliver building materials to the dacha - and there’s no problem. At the time of purchasing the Chevrolet Blazer, I already had a 3rd daughter, and in October 2008 my son was born. For our family, a large car is an important condition, because we always need to put something in the trunk - a stroller, a bicycle, numerous things, or all at once, for example, when we go to the country or to the village. My Blazer always fits everything. I am also very pleased that my car is simply irreplaceable when traveling outside the city - it showed itself at its best there: you can drive along any road - in the forest, through a field, where, naturally, an ordinary car cannot pass. Again, in winter, with the recent snowfall, I didn’t have any problems - my Chevrolet Blazer will go anywhere. It’s very convenient that all-wheel drive is plug-in – if it’s not needed at the moment, I just turn it off and spend less gas. By the way, about gasoline - you can even fill it with 80 and it will run without problems. On the highway its consumption is about 13 liters, and in the city 18 liters. In general, I’m very pleased with my car, I’ve been driving it for four years now, but now, however, I’ve decided to exchange it for a newer one - my wife asks.

Advantages : reliable, safe, large, roomy car. By driving performance everything is fine too.

Flaws : fuel consumption.

Chevrolet Blazer, 1996

Impressions from operating the Chevrolet Blazer: 10-14 l/100 km AI-80, sometimes I add 92 - 5-10%. According to the passport it says that it works on AI-86, but when it’s loaded, it needs more high quality gasoline. In the USA, gasoline is 86 unleaded, I don’t know what it is, but I make a “mix” of 80 and 92 gasoline and there is no difference between the “mix” and 92. Comfort - no bumps. A friend has an Outlander. I gave it a ride and he says it goes smoothly. Cruising speed 80-110 km/h. I squeezed 130, then it was pitiful and uncomfortable. Visibility, large mirrors. Convenient parking. When buying a Chevrolet Blazer, look at the frame; almost all of them rot. Replacement - 100 thousand rubles. Repairing a transmission on a Chevrolet Blazer usually costs about 90 thousand rubles. After “lighters” it’s hard to immediately get used to the weight and dimensions. We need to be more careful. I had several situations. I press the brake, and he goes. Once, while avoiding a collision, I jumped into a shallow ditch and drove 1 km through virgin soil. Losses - the insert in the bumper burst, almost imperceptibly, did not change it. The bad thing is that it rusts. The American assembly does not have galvanization. Cross-country ability: after rain on “bald” tires on muddy clay and with slides. It passed without fanaticism with a bang. There is not enough differential locking; at 2.5 tons uphill on wet grass, I started off at a low gear, but with difficulty. In general, I'm happy with the choice so far. I definitely won’t drive a passenger car again. For the future I am planning a Vitara or RAV4 with an automatic transmission.

Advantages : smooth ride. Load capacity. Trunk volume. Consumption. 80 gasoline.

Flaws : corrosion. Difficult access to candles. Spare parts to order. Few specialized services.

Chevrolet Blazer, 1996

I bought a Chevrolet Blazer on purpose. It was necessary to meet the budget. Of all the SUVs presented in Russia, it is unrivaled in price and quality. I took the car in a state of disrepair, took it to a service center, paid about 60-70 thousand rubles and the days of joy began. I’ll say right away that the engine was in good condition, but the attachments, suspension and body and interior were completely unkempt. During operation, the Chevrolet Blazer turned out to be reliable and unpretentious; all troubles were predictable. However, pitfalls emerged and the joy began to darken. In the end, I decided to sell, I felt sorry for the time and money, I couldn’t get them off the car, and I wasn’t a fan of the Chevrolet Blazer. Operation: consumption in the city is 18-28 l/100 km, and 18 is very slow and sad, like a turtle. Highway - 12-14 l/100 km, if you do not rev above 1900 rpm. High center of gravity - you need to take turns carefully. The prices for spare parts are reasonable, not cheap and not too expensive. The suspension of the Chevrolet Blazer is stiff, on a bad road it puts pressure on the ears, on good asphalt it’s like... passenger car, sound insulation is good. The lack of pockets in the cabin is annoying; there are simply none, except for the door pockets and the central glove box, oil, keys, sweepstakes, etc. hanging all over the trunk along with the first aid kit and warning triangle. In general, if it weren’t for the “dead” car and a more modest appetite (you can increase the consumption to 16-22 liters in the city, you just need to pour in a lot of money), most likely I would not have sold it. I really liked the interior (leather), comfortable seats, the back row folds out - you get a flat floor in the back, you can easily sleep together. It was never possible to plant a Chevrolet Blazer in mud and snow, although I didn’t specifically try. The engine is a separate story, after that the 2-liter engine is just a “corn mackerel”.

Advantages : engine. Patency. Clearance. Noise insulation. Frame. Unpretentious.

Flaws : fuel consumption. High center of gravity. Rear suspension.

Chevrolet Blazer, 1997

When it comes to comfort, the Chevrolet Blazer is, first and foremost, an engine. Why? Because it is he who allows you to drive on the road in a comfortable mode. Without thinking about whether it’s worth or not worth overtaking, or if you pass, you won’t pass. The second is the salon. Quite ancient, you feel like you’re in an antique shop. By the way, I attribute this to the advantages of the car. Comfortable front seats with adjustable lumbar, electric (which is not particularly critical) and comfortable ranges, unlike the “Japanese”. Cargo space is very important to me and if we sold the S-10, I would prefer it. This is an American pickup truck, on the basis of which the Chevrolet Blazer is built. The suspension is stiff in some places, and very imposing in others. It’s not clear what depends on what, but this is an SUV truck, so I’m resigned to it. The front suspension is like any Mitsubishi Pajero Sport. Torsion bars, four levers. Rear springs. Everything is on rubber bands, so there is no squeaking (if you change it on time). Cardan shafts on CV joints (no vibration observed). Even with a broken cross. By the way, I consider this a big disadvantage of foreign cars (all of them). The driver almost does not feel the broken unit. And after a couple of years the whole unit breaks down. As a result, the master mechanic's diagnosis sounds like a death sentence. I can't say with certainty that I am 100% satisfied with the purchase. I don’t like to prevaricate. The price of the issue is quality. Well, somewhere around 40 to 60%. That is, for this money you get a good car. But nothing more. For potential buyers, brand connoisseurs and fans. Buy it. They don't make things like that anymore. The car is not for showing off. A machine for business.

Advantages : power and torque. Automatic transmission of old design. Frame. Comfortable front seating. Price list for spare parts permissible limits. Repairable. Not a bad rogue.

Flaws : uncomfortable rear seating position. Long wait for spare parts and a lot of searching on your own. Doesn't like ruts. Quite hard for rear passengers.

Chevrolet Blazer, 1998

I'll describe my Chevrolet Blazer. In terms of consumption - it all depends on what wheels are on, and of course how you drive (prance or crawl), normally the consumption is less than on a UAZ. I have 13 liters in the city. Outside the city it’s never less than 11, even though the bookmaker says 9 liters, but if you ride all-wheel drive, then up to 30 liters is possible (the tank is only 68 liters). But on the evil ones or big wheels, no savings. The second is its low frame. Although it is adapted for easy and fast “body lifting,” the stock Chevrolet Blazer is many times more passable. And, of course, these are torsion bars. Of course, better than springs. But they add a lot of problems if you want not only to increase the distance from the body to the frame and from the arches to the wheels, but to increase the ground clearance (the distance from the ground to the frame). To be wise is not to be too wise. But in general, who cares. I would say in stock, a car for high-speed passage of rough terrain. On the highway 120-140. If it's faster, it starts to drive along the rut. But across the fields and mountains it’s simply superb. Gas to the floor and rushed off (a hundred miles across the field - easy). I didn’t even expect that the Chevrolet Blazer would stick to the ground so much. You think that’s it, the springboard and went into the break, but no. You can't get it off the ground. And it doesn’t hit the bottom, you can’t even test the protection. UAZ can't do that. In the end, I’ll say, it’s a great car if you don’t want to turn it into a “mud machine.” Very good as is. Well, maybe if only the lift is a couple of inches.

Advantages : permeability. Cheap spare parts. Very reliable. Thick, durable frame. Speed over rough terrain is his element. Designed for body lifting. There is a lot that can be gained from the domestic auto industry.

Flaws : large engine capacity. Low frame position.

Chevrolet Blazer, 1998

On the positive side: a complete package in the base - automatic transmission, cruise, leather, heated front seats, folding rear seat flush with the floor, full power accessories, air conditioning. The classic look of an SUV, especially when you hang the kengurin. Frame, really high ground clearance and full underbody protection. Ripe cherry color. Front and rear bumper Chevrolet Blazer has iron ones. Smooth on the go. The salon is huge. There is plenty of space for passengers in the back. Spare parts are inexpensive (however, they can be ordered in advance from 3 days). Consumption in summer - city 16 (driving without inhibitions - I'm a calm family person). It is possible to use 80 gasoline (without fanaticism). 197 horses – reduced tax. A lot has been developed by the “collective farm” (without fanaticism). Adequate price on the market (without overpayments for the brand). Separately opens with a button rear window(comfortable). Cons: shaky steering wheel (you get used to it over time). The protruding transfer case on the right causes discomfort to the passenger. There are no headrests at the rear. I want a hatch.

Advantages : see review.

Flaws : see review.

The mid-size Chevrolet Blazer SUV (which replaced the compact S-10 Blazer in the American car manufacturer's model range) debuted in 1995 - compared to its predecessor, it was noticeably transformed in terms of design, increased in size and received new equipment, but remained virtually unchanged technically. (unless only “armed” with modernized engines).

It is noteworthy that in Russia it was presented in a slightly different design than in the USA and Europe.

In 1998, the car underwent a planned update, as a result of which it acquired a slightly tweaked exterior and interior design, as well as an adjusted range of power units, after which it was mass-produced until 2005 (however, in Brazil it was produced until 2011).

From the outside, the Chevrolet Blazer shows very attractive, balanced and laconic lines, and with its small dimensions it looks like a full-fledged SUV.

A solid front with neat lighting equipment and a raised bumper, a brutal silhouette with flat sides, rounded square wheel arches and a darkened rear roof pillar, a simple rear with compact lights and a large trunk lid - the appearance of the SUV does not shine with design delights, but it does not have any rejection either causes.

This is a mid-size rogue with a three- or five-door body, which measures 4639-4724 mm in length, 1834 mm in width and 1689-1709 mm in height. The distance between the wheels of the front and rear axles is 2553-2718 mm for the car, and its ground clearance fits within 200 mm.

The curb weight of the “American” varies from 1629 to 1915 kg, depending on the modification.

The interior of the Chevrolet Blazer looks simple, but functional - a large four-spoke steering wheel with a flat rim, a laconic and informative instrument cluster with analogue dials and indicator lamps, a center console turned towards the driver, carrying a radio, three climate control controls and auxiliary function buttons.

Inside the car, high-quality but inexpensive finishing materials are used, and the build quality is at a good level.

The “apartments” of the mid-size SUV are designed to accommodate the driver and four of his companions, with sufficient free space provided in both rows of seats. In the front part of the cabin there are amorphous seats with weak lateral support and wide adjustment intervals, and in the rear there is a comfortable sofa with soft filling.

In good condition Chevrolet trunk The Blazer can hold between 855 and 1,056 liters depending on the number of doors, and with the second row of seats folded down it can hold between 1,849 and 2,098 liters. A full-fledged spare tire is suspended from the car on the street (under the bottom).

A wide range of power plants is offered for the Chevrolet Blazer:

  • The gasoline palette consists of in-line four-cylinder and V-shaped six-cylinder naturally aspirated engines with a working volume of 2.2-4.3 liters with a distributed “power” system and variable valve timing, which develop 106-200 Horse power and 195-353 Nm of torque.
  • There is only one diesel engine for the SUV - a 2.8-liter “four” with an in-line layout, turbocharging, direct injection Common Rail and a 16-valve timing structure, producing 140 hp. and 339 Nm of torque potential.

The engines are mated to a 5-speed manual or 4-speed automatic transmission, drive wheels on the rear axle or an all-wheel drive transmission with a hard-started front axle, transfer case and reduction gear.

The Blazer is based on a spar steel frame on which the power unit is longitudinally placed and other components are mounted. The front axle of the SUV is suspended by independent suspension with hydraulic shock absorbers, stabilizer lateral stability and coil springs, and the rear using a dependent design with leaf springs.

The car is equipped with a steering gear of a “worm” configuration, into which a power steering is integrated. On the front wheels of the “American” are used disc brakes, and on the rear – drum or disc depending on the modification (already in the “base” - with ABS).

On Russian market used cars, the “first” Chevrolet Blazer in 2018 can be purchased at a price of ~100 thousand rubles.

In the initial configuration, the SUV can boast: front airbags, alloy rims, ABS, radio with CD player, anti-theft system, automatic headlight leveling and other equipment.

The Blazer name first appeared in 1969, when the Americans began making the Blazer K-series car.

Interestingly, in the 80s, Chevrolet produced two different Blazers at once. One of them was introduced in 1982 and was called the Blazer S10. This car is based on the Chevrolet S10 pickup truck. For a long time, such a car was produced only in a 3-door version. This was done in order to separate the S10 from the larger 5-door Blazer C/K series (from which the latter model grew in the mid-90s Chevrolet model Tahoe). The Chevrolet Blazer S10 was equipped with engines of 2.5, 2.8 and 4.3 liters.

In 1991, the Blazer S10 was restyled. A 5-door modification appeared, and only a 4.3-liter engine (160 hp or 200 hp, depending on the modification) began to be installed under the hood. In 1993, the name of the SUV was slightly shortened - the car became known as Blazer S. And in 1994, when a new generation of the model was introduced, it was decided to remove the letter “S”. This is how the Chevrolet Blazer appeared. This Blazer came in 3- and 5-door body styles and a 4.3L engine. 193 hp

And the following year, 1995, another Chevrolet Blazer was born, which was intended for the South American market (it was made in Brazil). This car had a slightly different appearance and different power units: gasoline engines volume 2.2 l. (113 hp) and 4.3 l. (179 hp), as well as a 2.5-liter diesel engine (95 hp).

In our market there are cars of both American and Brazilian assembly.

Cars aimed at the US market can be distinguished by a more aggressive grille and a powerful 4.3-liter engine (193 hp). This, by the way, is the largest V6 engine in terms of volume. Of no small importance is the fact that the power unit has an impressive torque of 338 Nm, which develops already at 2800 rpm. According to the passport data, acceleration of a car from 0-100 km/h takes 10.1 seconds, and maximum speed is 180 km/h.

The appearance of South American SUVs is slightly different, and they were equipped with 2.2-liter engines producing 106 hp. or 4.3 liter with 179 hp. In addition, cars with such a power unit had rear drive, so it’s a stretch to call them SUVs.

They began to be assembled in the period from 1996 to 1999 at the plant in Elabuga in Tatarstan. Car kits arrived from the General Motors do Brasil factories, which were practically finished cars, only without bumpers, lighting, exterior mirrors, seats and other small items. These parts, neatly packed, lay in the cabin. Only rubber mats and jacks were Russian. This project ended rather ingloriously - after the financial crisis of 1998, Brazilian-Tatar Chevrolets were poorly purchased, despite very attractive prices.

Corrosion on the second generation Blazer is quite rare. The car is based on a powerful frame that can serve for quite a long time.

The interior design is made in a typical American style. The interior does not boast of designer delights, but everything is done simply and clearly. A significant portion of American Blazers have leather trim.

In standard situations, the trunk volume is decent, and if you fold the back seat (in whole or in parts), you can get a whole cargo area - 2.1 m³ in the five-door version. In addition, there are four metal eyelets in the floor, with which you can easily secure any large load. There is enough space in the back seat. The SUV has good sound insulation and a decent ride.

The equipment of the American Blazer is rich. Cars have electric windows and mirrors, and often the seats are also adjusted using buttons.

All-wheel drive modifications of the Chevrolet Blazer also perform well off-road, because the model has high ground clearance and a low range of gears.

In 2001, a new SUV was introduced in the United States, which replaced the Blazer. True, it was called differently - TrialBlazer.
