The car is equipped with a 1.5 liter SQR477F engine, as well as manual transmission QR515MHA gears, developed based on the latest technology. The SQR477F engine is a vertical, water-cooled, four-cylinder, in-line, four-stroke with one camshaft and electronic multi-point fuel injection. The SQR477F engine has ideal characteristics and reliable design, in particular, in terms of exhaust gas toxicity and noise. During assembly and maintenance engine, you must adhere to the requirements given in this manual, since failure to comply may result in malfunction or even damage to the engine. The SQR477F engine is distinguished by the presence of four valves in each of the cylinders, namely: each cylinder is equipped with two intake and two exhaust valves. The intake valve head has a larger area than the exhaust valve head.

Removal and installation of the power unit

Removing the power unit with subframe and front beam

Disconnect components and parts of vehicle systems. Drain the oil from the engine crankcase and gearbox housing.

Place the cart under power unit. Unscrew the subframe mounting bolts (1), (2). Unscrew the bolts securing the front beam of the power unit (3). Unscrew the radiator beam mounting bolts (4).

Installation of the power unit with subframe and front beam

Install the trolley with the power unit, subframe, and front beam on the lift. Lift with a lift until the silent blocks of the subframe and front beam are aligned with the holes in the body brackets and secure:

  • radiator beam with bolts (4), Micro = 45 N*m (40-50 N*m);
  • front beam of the power unit with bolts (3), Micro = 130 N*m (120-140 N*m).
  • subframe bolts (1), (2); Micro = 130 N*m (120-140 N*m).

Removing the cylinder head assembly

Unscrew the cylinder head cover bolts using a 10 mm socket wrench. Remove the cylinder head cover.

Unscrew the two bolts from the upper timing cover. Remove the upper timing cover. Remove the lower timing cover with seals.

The best-selling class of cars on the local market are B segment models. Due to the current financial situation, prices for most of them have increased. And yet there are very inexpensive options. One of these is ZAZ-Forza. The following is a history of technical parameters of this car and its place in the market.

Story

First of all, it should be noted that this car is a version of the Chery A-13, so you should consider the features of this car.

The A-13 is a class B subcompact model. It has been in production since 2008. It is based on Chery Amulet, which is based on the Seat Toledo platform developed in the early 90s. of the past century. To create the design, the manufacturer turned to the body shop Torino Design.

Production of the car in Ukraine under the name "ZAZ-Forza" began in 2010. It was originally planned that it would become the successor to the ZAZ Sens/Chance, but in fact the Forza replaced the discontinued Opel Astra G.

The vehicle in question is technically identical to the A-13 and differs only in some equipment features.

Body

This model has two body styles: liftback and 5-door hatchback.

The dimensions of the first are 4.269 m in length, 1.686 m in width and 1.492 m in height, wheelbase equal to 2.527 m.

The ZAZ-Forza hatchback is a little more compact. Its length is 4.139 m. The remaining overall dimensions are the same.

The curb weight of the car in both versions is 1.2 tons.

Engine

Forza has a single ACTECO SQR477F engine, which was developed in collaboration with AVL. It is a 4-cylinder power unit with a volume of 1.5 liters. Its power is 109 hp. s., torque - 140 Nm.

Transmission

The only engine is also equipped with only one gearbox. This is a 5-speed manual transmission.

Front-wheel drive.

Chassis

The next Comfort package is additionally equipped with such equipment as ABS with EBD, electric heated driver's seat, passenger airbag, electric mirrors, rear electric windows, MP3 audio system with USB and 4 speakers, front fog lights.

The maximum version of Luxury, in addition to the above, has alloy wheels, an audio system with 6 speakers, and parking sensors.

Dynamic

Initially it was assumed that the car would be a successor to the ZAZ Chance /Sens, but in production the car served as a successor to the discontinued Opel Astra G OTGF69. The liftback is a largely localized version of the Chery A-13 with some configuration changes: for example head unit replaced by a “single-din” without (radio and mini-USB only).

In Russia, where cars produced at the Zaporozhye Automobile Plant (Ukraine) are sold, the name is used Chery Bonus. Since December 2011, official sales of ZAZ FORZA (in sedan and 5-door hatchback bodies) began in Belarus.

ZAZ Forza is the name for the Ukrainian market of the Chery A13 model, which was sold for a short time in our country with a Chinese name. The car was created by Chery Automobile back in 2009, and its serial production in China began in 2010. According to Chery vice president Ju Biren, more than 100 thousand A13 have already been sold in China.

The Chinese company is rightfully proud of the Chery A13, since they have already created this car on our own, without borrowing or copying world analogues.

Italian designers from the Torino Design studio were involved in the development, and the appearance of the car already feels harmony and modern trends in automotive fashion.

The new generation ACTECO engines were developed jointly with the Austrian company AVL, as a result of which it was possible to achieve their compliance with Euro-4 standards, and in the future Euro-5. And the specific power figures are impressive. Thus, the ZAZ Forza engine with a displacement of 1497 cc. produces 109 hp at 6000 rpm, and a torque of 140 Nm.

As a result, the Chery A13 in its characteristics is already strikingly different from the Chinese cars of the “first wave”.

Strategy
ZAZ entered the crisis of 2008-2009 very quickly. The plant had to be stopped, as consumer demand in Ukraine collapsed significantly in just a few months. Not a trace remains of the former full-scale production volumes of 150 thousand. In 2009, ZAZ produced 43.9 thousand cars, including SKD assembly, and in 2010 – 42.2 thousand cars.

The only hope was for export to Russia. But here, too, the plant had to face an unforeseen circumstance. General Motors in 2009 refused to purchase for sale in Russia Chevrolet cars Lanos. It was urgent to build a sales network from scratch and start selling it ourselves. We had to enter the markets of the CIS countries with a new name - ZAZ Chance. This partially made it possible to increase the plant's capacity, but still more than 50% of the capacity remained vacant. The production of "Tavriy" had already been curtailed by that time, and "Slavuta" was extremely difficult to sell due to high overhead costs, although it was the most affordable car on the market.

Even then it was clear that only export could save the plant. ZAZ urgently needed another car with which it could enter not only the Ukrainian market, but also sell it in other CIS countries. In 2009, ZAZ began SKD assembly of the KIA C’eed, and the plant’s shareholders negotiated with the Korean corporation about full-scale production. At first, the prospects seemed to be quite good, but KIA Motors relied on factories in Russia and was very reluctant to agree to contract assembly.

At the same time, Chery experienced difficulties organizing production in the CIS. This company was one of the first to come to Russia, actively developed, to reduce costs, organized the assembly of its cars at the Avtotor plant in Kaliningrad, and was ready to build its own plant in Russia. But the expansion of Chinese cars was opposed by the powerful lobby of the Russian automobile industry. From the beginning, Chery was not given the opportunity to receive benefits and build its own plant, then Avtotor canceled the assembly contract, and the distributor also changed.

Chery began to look for new car factories, and was forced to organize production in Taganrog, where the local manufacturer sold some of the cars under its Vortex brand, and gave some to the Chery dealer network. Chinese automakers also negotiated with the Belarusian authorities, promising to build a plant in Minsk, but then became afraid that the deterioration of political relations between Russia and Belarus would leave them without their main market.

All this time, negotiations were ongoing with ZAZ, and gradually Chery’s position became more and more loyal, which ultimately resulted in a strategic partnership agreement. ZAZ received the right to produce the Chery A13 car, which will be sold on the Ukrainian market under the name ZAZ Forza. For the Russian market, at the request of Chery itself, ZAZ will supply cars under the Chery brand.

The agreement assumes that ZAZ will localize more than 50% of the added value of the finished vehicle, including assembly of the engine and gearboxes.

Thus, the partners got what they wanted. ZAZ is another model for loading production and sales on the Ukrainian market under own name. Chery - access to the market of Ukraine, and most importantly - Russia, since Ukrainian-made cars can be delivered duty-free to Russia. Official documents indicate a production figure of 10,000 cars in 2011, of which 2,500 will be sold in Ukraine, and 7,500 in Russia. But more significant capacity has been allocated for the Forza project. In the current operating mode, the plant can produce up to 8 cars per hour, which is equivalent to 24 thousand cars per year.

Investments in the ZAZ Forza project amounted to about $30 million, and according to the Honorary President of the UkrAvto Corporation Tariel Vasadze, the partners divided the costs in half.

Both ZAZ and Chery do not hide the fact that as soon as Ukraine enters a free trade zone with the EU, supplies of cars to the European Union are possible.

Vice President of Chery Automobile Ju Biren, during the presentation of ZAZ Forza, said that he is satisfied with the cooperation with UkrAvto and ZAZ, and the partners are already discussing the second model, the production of which will be mastered by ZAZ. She will be named in 3-4 months.

Judging by the rhetoric, ZAZ finally has a strategic partner. But it’s too early to talk about this definitively. How many were there before this? Daewoo, General Motors, AvtoVAZ, KIA, and even Daimler-Chrysler. ZAZ was already conducting full-scale production of Opel Astra, Lada-21093\99, planned the production of an E-class car, etc. But only Lanos was able to maintain production.

An alliance with Chery could be very promising, given that it is one of the most dynamically developing companies in the world. Chery is already talking about sales of 1 million cars, although 4-5 years ago it produced 200-300 thousand cars, mainly Amulet and QQ. Now Chery already has its own engineering center, modern engine production, and several factories. ZAZ can become Chery's partner in the CIS, and perhaps the first bridge to enter the European Union. But there are many political obstacles to this rosy path, so it is too early to draw conclusions. Obviously, ZAZ simply had no alternative to cooperation with Chinese manufacturers. In post-crisis conditions, only they were ready to share their technologies with ZAZ.

Production ZAZ Forza
According to Yuri Plechun, Deputy Head of the Board of ZAZ CJSC, production will initially start with a high degree of localization - by April the figure of 51.7% will be reached. At ZAZ they have not only mastered body welding, painting and assembly, but also produce a lot of components, assembling engines and gearboxes.

“Is it already difficult to say that Forza has more Ukrainian or Chinese?” - says Yuri Plechun. “European cars now also have a lot of Chinese components. Before starting production, we invited suppliers and together with them created a localization program. But for us it is not an end in itself to necessarily install Ukrainian-made components on Forza; if it is profitable to purchase them in Europe, we will purchase them,” continues Mr. Plechun.

“For economic reasons, we are not yet printing body parts because it is very expensive. We get all our stamping from China. But 6 small parts of the engine compartment are already made at ZAZ.”

ZAZ has completely mastered the production of plastic bumpers for Forza; almost all interior equipment is also made by ZAZ: instrument panel, door trim, ceiling, maps, seats, individual suspension elements. Forza will have Ukrainian exhaust systems produced by the ZAZ-Bosal joint venture, partly the power system, there will be Ukrainian tires, wheels, batteries, and air conditioning parts.

A separate line was installed in the welding shop for Forza, where welding is still carried out manually. In the main conductor, the body elements are joined and the body geometry is formed. Then wings are hung on it, doors and the finished body are sent to the paint shop.


Forza is painted on the same line where Lanos are painted. Treatment with anti-corrosion primer occurs by dipping in a bathtub, after which the body is dried and sent to a chamber where robots paint Forza in 10 different colors. In terms of body protection from corrosion, Forza is not inferior to Lanos.

After quality control of the painting, the body is sent to the assembly shop, where the car is completed on a conveyor belt, from post to post. On the assembly line, Forza is mixed with Lanos, but thanks to electronic system configuration, the assembler clearly knows which part from which configuration needs to be installed on a specific car.

After completing the assembly, the ZAZ Forza enters the diagnostic line, and completes the production cycle with a mandatory run on the test track on the territory of the plant.

If during the trip any deviations are identified, the car will be sent for revision. Vehicles are prepared for delivery to dealers at the final acceptance site.

The production technology of ZAZ Forza is no different from what we already know from Lanos. ZAZ promises both appropriate quality and its control. Yuriy Plechun is proud that almost the entire interior of the car is already produced in Ukraine, which will guarantee its durability. The brand new ZAZ Forza even smells like Ukrainian, they joke at the factory.


Era ZAZ Forza
While the ZAZ Forza with a liftback body is coming off the assembly line (the trunk lid rises along with rear window), and in May production of hatchback models will begin. For now there will be only one engine – a 1.5 liter petrol (109 hp). Transmission – manual 5-speed. By the way, both the engine and gearbox are assembled in Melitopol (MeMZ), but according to Yuri Plechun, the plant has already begun producing individual parts for the new engines. So, in Melitopol they make liners, covers, flanges, and soon they will start producing gears for the gearbox. The ZAZ Forza engine complies with Euro-4 standards, and with minor modifications it also reaches Euro-5 standards.

They are talking about ZAZ and robotic box programs for Forza, but specific dates have not yet been announced.

At first, the ZAZ Forza will be available in 3 trim levels: Base Plus, Comfort and Luxury. The price starts from 79900 UAH. for the initial version, but already for this money the car has air conditioning, power steering, ABS, driver airbag, electric drive of all windows, heated and electrically controlled exterior mirrors. The car is initially equipped with high-profile tires of size 185\60R15. Warranty – 3 years or 60 thousand km.

ZAZ Forza has already appeared in car showrooms, but it is still difficult to say what kind of car it is. During our visit to ZAZ, we managed to drive a couple of laps around the test track, and we are not ready to take the liberty of making assessments based on this trip. Now we can say with confidence that ZAZ Forza will become one of the most mass cars for the coming years in Ukraine, as Lanos once became. The era of Forza is coming at ZAZ.

The 2019 Zaz Forza is not an example of luxury and the highest point of intellectual thought. But to become a popular model on the domestic market, you don’t have to be a particularly outstanding model.

The modern consumer can forgive many shortcomings, but if the model costs adequate money, and also has good equipment, cheap spare parts and good maintainability, then it has a definite chance of becoming widespread. This happened with domestic cars like the Tavria Slavuta, and this can happen with the brainchild of ZAZ - Forza (pictured).

It is worth saying that this is not entirely domestic car. In fact, Zaz Forza 2020 is a converted clone of the Chinese Chery car A13, also sold under the name Bonus. Sales of the model began in 2009. However, by 2011, in order to reduce the price of the car, it was decided to assemble the car at ZAZ production facilities. In addition, Forza must consist of at least half of locally produced parts.

Although the model did not receive a new name new body, but underwent a certain restyling that affected the exterior. The car acquired a slightly modified radiator grille, and the Chery company logo gave way to the ZAZ emblem. Needs development appearance ZAZ Forza 2019 was created by the Italian studio Torino design. As a result of the work of European specialists, a nice car was obtained. Of course, the Zaz Forza car is far from a style icon; its appearance deserves very positive reviews.

Small short overhangs, neat head optics, nice rims. Everything looks quite harmonious and without pretentiousness or overdoing, which sometimes people can afford chinese cars. Except that the rear of a car in a liftback body may seem slightly indistinct, especially when viewed in profile. Of course, this is a matter of taste, but the Zaz Forza in a hatchback body looks more complete and laconic (see photo).

Good equipment

The interior of the Zaz Forza pleases with its space, quite large for a car of this size. Another pleasant fact is that the foreign odors inherent in many Chinese models are absent as such. Dashboard not bad, but I would like to make the speedometer and tachometer scales larger. The landing position is normal, and the thin A-pillars practically do not interfere with visibility. The range of adjustments is enough to make a driver up to 190 cm tall feel quite comfortable.

But the rear passengers will have a rather difficult time with a similar height. After all, both the liftback and the Zaz Forza hatchback have a sloping roof, which reduces the space above your head. So it will be problematic for tall people to sit here comfortably.

In general, there are no complaints about the ergonomics of the Zaz Forza. Unless the air conditioning control buttons are located next to the trunk opening button - there is a risk of missing. The necessary set of functions and accessories is also present. There is a tow bar, air conditioning, full power accessories, central locking, electric mirrors, radio with CD drive.

IN fully equipped you can buy a Zaz Forza with cruise control, airbags, parking sensors and alloy rims. The trunk can rightfully be considered a serious advantage. A wide loading opening and the possibility of transformation by folding the backrest will help increase the usable space to 1400 liters! And hidden underground is a full-size spare tire.

Under the hood of the new ZAZ Forza there is a 1.5-liter engine with a power of 109 hp. Nothing outstanding, but its advantages lie elsewhere. This is unpretentiousness, cheap spare parts and maintainability. The unit is designed to work in tandem with a 5-speed manual transmission. There are no alternatives such as diesel or automatic in the line. But the car is designed to please with good fuel consumption - up to 9 liters of gasoline even in city mode.


Small and quiet

In motion, the ZAZ Forza is not a revelation (see video test drive). Ordinary budget car. The character of the motor is very pleasant. He confidently pulls from the very bottom. The other side of the coin is that at speeds above 4 thousand, the engine feels quite uncomfortable. The box works quite clearly, but the noise from it is more than we would like to hear. But I liked the steering wheel because it was informative. Clear feedback, quick response to manipulations, proper effort. Everything is exactly as it should be.

And speaking of shortcomings, the owners of the Zaz Forza 2019 are unlikely to like the excessively large rolls in corners. When going through bends, the car tilts quite noticeably; it would not hurt to subject this part of the chassis to tuning. On a flat road and when cornering with plenty of reserve, the car behaves quite comfortably and predictably.
