Nissan Tiida CVT how much oil. How to change the oil in a Nissan Tiida variator with your own hands? Description of the main stages

To change the oil in the variator you need a little:

First of all, you need the oil itself, for my variator it is NS-2. I took two 4 liter cans, there was one incomplete can left, because... used approximately 5.2 liters. In addition, you needed a container for draining used oil, a utility knife, a 19 mm wrench, a plastic bottle with a hose (1 cm in diameter), gloves and electrical tape.

I used the overpass, but you can do without it.I drove onto the overpass, opened the hood, pulled out the variator dipstick

who doesn’t know - there is a latch on the probe on the side surface of the handle, you need to press it with something similar to a screwdriver, I press it with an office key :) Then we take this:

and unscrew this

After the first turn of the plug, you can unscrew it with your fingers, placing a container underneath to receive the oil. I had two of them :)

For those who don’t know, the oil is hot and, as you can see, it’s already very dark. In order not to bother with the volume of new oil poured, we make marks on containers with used oil. I scratched the mark on the bottles with a utility knife. If you want the marks to be clearly visible in the photographs, take white gouache with you :) Carefully pour the used oil into 6 liter jar and later we take it to our comrades who have a working boiler. At the bottom we find this:

Do not forget to pay attention to the presence of a sealing washer on this. If everything is in place, screw it back where it was, tighten it without fanaticism.

Then we do this:

and like this:

Pour new oil into the already empty used oil containers, exactly to the mark. You can't see it here, but the oil is green like Tarragon, but you can't drink it.

But here you can already see that the oil is green:

but you still can't drink :)

After all the oil has been poured into the variator, the most difficult thing remains - we remove the stray with the hose, insert the dipstick into place, close the hood, collect the empty cans in a bag, tie the bag with two knots and put it in the trunk - this is a gift to the nearest trash heap. Then we wipe the dust in the engine compartment with a cloth for another hour and get satisfaction from the work done, it looks like this:

Then we drive along the highway for 10 km, play with the SPORT button, don’t listen to music, listen to the engine. We stop, move the gearbox lever through all positions, leave it in “P” mode, don’t turn off the car, get out, pull out the dipstick and check the oil level in the variator. We make sure that everything is fine, get into the car, drive home for dinner, listen to music along the way and plan for a couple of weeks.

I decided, with the arrival of heat and a filter, to change the oil in the boiler!
I took Idemitsu CVT Type N oil, I read that this is what is in the NS-2 cans. I took 8 bottles of 1 liter each with a price of 640 per liter.

I also ordered a pan gasket.

Order filter fine cleaning, I waited for it the longest - almost a month... thanks to Emex that the filter was lying around in our warehouse for a week in our city...

We will need for replacement: A driver and a ratchet A small extension (unscrew the pan bolts) A 19 socket (unscrew the drain bolt) A 10 socket (unscrew the pan bolts and coarse filter) A 6 hexagon (unscrew the fine filter) So, let's start: Raise the car and place it on reliable stops. We remove the plastic protection, it prevents us from unscrewing the front bolts of the pan.

Take a basin or bottle of at least 5 liters, unscrew the bolt to 19 and drain about 5 liters of oil

After this, unscrew the bolts of the pallet, carefully hold it, because there is still about a liter of oil

Here is a tray with magnets

Then remove the coarse filter. ATTENTION! One bolt is shorter than the others, located in the corner and secures the plate with wires

Then a fine filter

There is still a small amount of oil in both filters. Take the coarse filter and pan and go clean it

It is best to clean with a carb cleaner; jet pressure will clean well. I ran out of it at the very beginning, because it was all spent on cleaning the remote control. I had to clean it with gasoline. We remove the magnets and clean them too. It remains unclear to me that there are several pieces of black wires in this block that are simply dangling in pieces... for what purpose? maybe someone knows?

I still had to spend a long time and tediously cleaning off the old black sealant from the pan, bolts and variator housing - an indication that someone had already stuck their unprofessional snout into the variator.
After that we put the magnets in place
Let's take it new filter fine cleaning and put it in place
Screw on the coarse filter

We check all the bolts very carefully! So that there are no unnecessary parts, dirt, lint, etc.

Place a new gasket on the pan

We put back the pan with the gasket, first screwing in the drain plug. We stretch the bolts crosswise.

After this, start the engine, bring it to operating temperature, we drive the gear selector back and forth, get out and check the fluid level.
We check with a warm, running engine, with the selector in position P!
The oil level should be at the top shaded line

If there were no more problems, then congratulations. For me, everything didn’t go so easily, as I already said, someone stuck their snout into the variator...

Driving a car with an automatic transmission is much easier than in designs with another device. But at the station maintenance Changing the oil in the variator will not be the cheapest procedure. Some workshops refuse to do this work at all because high complexity. This does not mean that you need to completely abandon the CVT. Such complications can be easily avoided by handling the system carefully and changing the transmission fluid in a timely manner.

There are certain subtleties that must be taken into account when performing this work, including in Tiida.

  1. Without special equipment, it is impossible to completely remove old oil from an automatic transmission.
  2. Only in new CVTs can you remove oil that has served its useful life. For older devices this procedure is not recommended.
  3. The Tiida box and other brands require regular diagnostics.
  4. It will take about 12 liters of the new composition to completely replace the lubricant with flushing. The old oil must be completely replaced by the new one. The proper result cannot be achieved if you do not use a compressor or pump.
  5. Partial replacement may not give the desired result. This is due to the fact that old fluids initially contain some impurity.

How to make the right choice?

Nissan CVT Fluid NS-2 is a branded oil that is best suited for replacement.

This composition is poured into the box of Tiida and other models at the factory. You can purchase oils from other manufacturers, but here the buyer himself chooses how much money he is willing to spend. Only expensive oils will ensure stable, uninterrupted operation of the unit.

Detailed instructions for DIY work

Achieve complete replacement lubrication in the Nissan Trail automatic transmission is very difficult, without having special equipment. Therefore, at home, such work can only be partial.

Of the tools for Tiida and other models we need:

  1. Rags.
  2. Part with a new filter for Nissan Tiida or other brands.
  3. Crankcase gasket.
  4. Container for draining used lubricant, 8-10 liters.
  5. Jack.
  6. New oil for 8 liters.
  7. Set of keys.

Description of the main stages

It is better to take a short trip first, or warm up the Tiida car so that the oil drains better. It is recommended to use the classic version of the lift to perform all work. But overpasses with inspection holes are also suitable if this device is not available.

Fluid level in the variator box. Correct Measurement

Many Nissan drivers encounter errors that occur due to incorrect level measurements. Almost everyone thinks that you need to fill in the same amount of fluid as was drained. But there are situations when there may be less new liquid. Most channels are aired after the waste fluid is removed. Therefore, lubricant does not get inside these structures.

The air is removed after some time. After this, lubricant begins to enter the channels. If there is too much liquid during this moment, it will simply foam. Which leads to even bigger problems.

To correctly check the fluid level you must:

Only at first glance, it seems that it is easy and simple to check the lubricant level in a Nissan car. The car owner needs to be aware of several points: both high and low level; if the value is too high, the lubrication characteristics deteriorate and foaming occurs.

Features of replacement in CVT transmissions from Nissan

Over time, manufacturers improve vehicle mechanisms. Trail was no exception. For example, on many modern models, including Tiida. aging counters appeared. Such sensors cannot be replaced by putting something else in their place.

This type of mathematical algorithm is built into the Nissan transmission control unit from the very beginning, even at the factory. Conventionally, correction factors for fluid aging are introduced based on several parameters, including temperature, speed and load. Thanks to this device, the interval for filling the new mixture for Nissan is reduced, but the quality of the mixture does not become worse. In a rough sense, this algorithm allows the driver to understand how long the train has been operating at high temperatures.

The fluid in Nissan Trail or Tiida transmissions is now changed when the aging indicator reaches 210 thousand. Usually the procedure is prescribed during maintenance, inspecting the contents of the car. The fluid is not changed if its indicators are normal. But practice shows that even with 60 thousand, many structures require repairs or need to be replaced.

Engineers conducted a series of studies in which they found out the main causes of breakdowns.

  1. Poor quality of road surfaces.
  2. Low qualifications of service personnel.
  3. Low culture Nissan operation Trail.

Each reason has a number of features.

  • The poor operating culture of the Nissan Trail is due to the fact that many drivers neglect the operating instructions. For example, in winter they ignore warming up the engine. The engine cooling system helps warm up the composition in the CVT. But owners do not warm up their engine, citing time savings.

The huge load on the transmission components leads to deformations. Because of this, even the power steering suffers.

  • Low qualifications of service personnel. Often employees only try to quickly sell the car itself or their services. They do not care about the difficulties that are then transferred to the shoulders of vehicle owners when Automatic Nissan fail. Many, on the contrary, try to prove that there is no change procedure at all, as well as a counter, an indicator of aging.
  • Poor quality of road surfaces. The most problems arise at joints and waves. Because of this, oscillatory processes appear in the transmission. The oil film in the gap is destroyed. This also affects the design of the variator.

Maintenance of a compact crossover: transmission lubrication

The pan in the machine must be completely removed to gain access to the largest filter. Typically, this part is protected from plastic in Nissan automatic transmissions.
The filter is protected by an iron housing if we are talking about a first-generation variator. In the second generation, the protection is always plastic. There is practically no difference between these cases. But this does not mean that the parts are interchangeable. The parts are similar to each other only in the sense that they are in the same place and have the same purpose.

The presence of a fine filter is another detail in which the first generation of the variator differs from the second. The second generation variator does not have a filter in the pan. But the part has been moved to the radiator. The design is called remote. But for first generation filters this part is located in the pan itself.

There is usually a yellow stripe along the entire perimeter of the variator. Not everyone knows what this part is and what function it performs. This is a special cardboard spacer. It is recommended to be careful when removing it. If the part is not damaged during dismantling, it will last almost forever.

Why do you need to change transmission fluid at all?

This procedure is necessary for any vehicle and Nissan automatic transmission, even if the instructions don’t say anything. And, even if the liquid does not leak anywhere for a long time. Evaporation processes still occur in the system, due to which the amount working fluid decreases. Because of this, automatic transmissions fail prematurely and begin to wear out.
Therefore, it is recommended to check the overall oil level in the automatic transmission every month. This must also be done during scheduled maintenance of the car. The presence of a characteristic burnt smell or a changed color should indicate that the fluid needs to be changed.

Is it worth changing the fluid in maintenance-free automatic transmissions?

The maintenance-free type of boxes also allows for fluid replacement, but this process just has its own characteristics. The same amount of fresh composition must be added as the used one was drained. It is necessary to measure the amount of liquid that has already been drained.

It is important to take into account the property of a liquid to expand when it heats up. Therefore, the substance must be poured when it is still cold. It is best to cool the box before serious manipulation begins. It is also necessary to familiarize yourself with a number of requirements imposed by the manufacturer itself. It is almost always recommended to use original solutions, but their cost is very high. For the gearbox, you can also select a universal composition.

Transmission lube: myths and reality

Conclusion

Replacing the lubricating fluid is a fairly simple procedure, which even for beginners will take no more than twenty minutes if everything is available necessary tools. It is recommended to carry out work every six months, or every fifteen thousand kilometers. This will ensure uninterrupted operation in all elements of the system.
