Tuning the UAZ 469 can be done in two ways. The first method is to improve the technical characteristics of the car, and the second is to improve the interior and appearance cars (see photo). You can also improve all parts of the car as a whole, but, as a rule, only very rich car enthusiasts dare to do this, since any improvements cost some money.

The simplest tuning of a UAZ is the installation of self-locking differentials. In addition, improved handling is achieved by installing power steering (power steering). All these measures do not require large financial and labor expenditures, but significantly improve technical specifications cars.

Power steering

The effect of using hydraulic booster cannot be exaggerated. It helps reduce the physical stress on the driver when driving off-road by 2-3 times. This is the best tuning for UAZ. This is especially noticeable during prolonged movement in heavy road conditions. The original power steering kit includes all the necessary parts.

Algorithm for performing the work:

  1. We remove the steering wheel.
  2. Remove the steering column along with the universal joint.
  3. Unscrew the nut and disconnect steering rod from the bipod.
  4. Unscrew the 3 steering gear bolts.
  5. We place the bipod from the kit on the shaft of the new steering mechanism with power steering and tighten the nut that secures it.
  6. We install the new steering mechanism in place of the old one and secure it with 3 bolts.
  7. We connect the bipod with the steering rod. Tighten and cotter the fastening nut.
  8. We cut off the bracket that mounts the old steering column; it will interfere with the installation of the new one.
  9. We put the plastic attachment from the kit on the new steering column and secure it with glue.
  10. We install the contact screw and the horn bushing from the old column into the nozzle.
  11. We fasten the metal column support from the kit to the car body with M6 bolts.
  12. We put a rubber ring, washer and castle nut on the new column, then insert it into the support and secure it with a stepladder.
  13. We insert the propeller shaft from the kit between the column and the steering mechanism. We combine its hole with the wedge from the kit. We determine the entrance hole (the widest one) and drive the wedge in with light blows of a hammer through a drift.
  14. We put regular and spring washers on the threads of the wedge and secure it with a nut with a cotter pin.
  15. We fasten the splines of the other end of the new shaft in the same way as the old cardan was fastened.
  16. We finally attach the steering column. The length between the shaft joints should be 30 cm.
  17. Tighten the castle nut and install the steering wheel.
  18. We connect the wires and adjust the position of the horn bushing.

The steering mechanism has been replaced, you can continue installing the power steering parts.

Installing the power steering pump and reservoir

Procedure:

  1. Remove the cooling system fan and pulley crankshaft and drive belt.
  2. We unscrew the pump bolts and attach the radiator fan to the water pump hub using the spacer from the kit and longer bolts.
  3. We install the power steering pump pulley in place of the crankshaft pulley so that the ignition mark faces backwards, in the direction of travel of the car. We secure the new pulley using longer bolts.
  4. Unscrew the bolts and remove fuel filter along with the bracket. In its place we install the power steering bracket.
  5. Unscrew the top nut securing the pump and install the bracket from the power steering kit on the stud with the eye facing backwards. Then tighten the nut back.
  6. We attach the pump with the bracket to the bracket and insert a stop with a tip and a lock nut between the bracket and the bracket. We connect the bracket and the bar with the bolt from the kit.
  7. We put the power steering belt on the pulleys and adjust its tension. To do this, we achieve parallelism of the rotation axes of the pulleys, limiting the bending of the bracket by turning the stop out of the tip. Normal belt deflection should be in the range of 12 - 17 mm when pressed by hand. It should be placed perpendicular to the plane of the pulleys.
  8. After the belt tension is adjusted, finally tighten all the pump mounting bolts and lock the stop and tip with a lock nut.
  9. Install the fuel filter into the square hole.

Improved power steering for model 469

The pump is installed, after that you need to:

  • drill 3 holes in the left mudguard of the engine compartment, attach a bracket to the mudguard and, using a clamp, bolts and nuts, secure the tank to it;
  • connect the reservoir with the pump and steering mechanism with polymer hoses;
  • pour multi-grade transmission oil into the system;
  • turn the steering wheel in both directions until it stops (hanging the front wheels) to remove air from the system;
  • start the UAZ 469 engine, check the operation of the power steering and, if necessary, add fluid to the tank.

If the oil in the tank foams when the engine is running, it means the system is leaking. Stop the engine, seal the hoses and bleed the system again.

Improved suspension and axles

The simplest tuning of the UAZ 469 suspension with your own hands involves installing metal or fluoroplastic gaskets in the springs. The point is that this contributes to less friction between the sheets and, accordingly, makes the suspension softer.

To remake the springs, you need to buy 4 main leaves from GAZ 53. They need to be cut so that they are 100 mm longer than the original main leaves and become the same in width.

The higher the better

Algorithm of actions:

  1. We remove and disassemble the old springs.
  2. We clean off dirt and lubricate the main, root and shortest leaves of the front springs.
  3. We do the same with the main, radical and 2 shortest leaves of the rear springs.
  4. We assemble the front springs in the following sequence: on top of the main spring, below it is the radical one, then the short one, and under it is a sheet from GAZ 53. Spacers 150 mm long should be installed between them. Steel spacers can be made from remaining unclaimed sheets by cutting them into pieces with a grinder.
  5. We assemble the rear springs in the same way, but add another short leaf and its gasket.
  6. We install the springs back.

After this you can install rear shock absorbers from the GAZ 53 car. This tuning on the UAZ will increase the softness of the rear suspension and the stability of the car in corners.

Further tuning of the UAZ 469 on your own involves installing self-locking differentials. They come in 2 types - cam and cone. The former block the differential very rigidly; installing them in the front axles leads to a 2-fold increase in the turning radius. Therefore, experts advise placing them only in rear axles. The latter work more softly, so they are installed in both rear and front axles.

Reinforced suspension springs

To replace differentials you must:

  • remove the bridge;
  • unscrew and remove the axle shafts;
  • open the gearbox housing;
  • remove both bearings;
  • remove the old main pair (GP);
  • install a new GPU;
  • stuff the bearings back, leaving a gap of 3 mm;
  • assemble the gearbox by tightening all the bolts, then disassemble everything again and measure the gaps;
  • add 0.1 to the resulting figure and divide the result in half;
  • insert rings of the appropriate width in front of the bearings and assemble the gearbox completely.

External tuning

When preparing a car for hunting, you must do body parts resistant to impacts from branches or stones. To do this, the lower part of the UAZ body is sheathed with metal sheets. Thin sheets of aluminum or stainless steel are suitable. Once the sheets are installed, coats of primer and paint can be applied.

Winches for UAZ 469

Tuning the UAZ 469 for off-road requires the installation of winches. They are installed on the front and rear bumpers of the car.

IMPORTANT: The UAZ vehicle must be equipped with winches with high-strength steel cable. The pulling force of the device should not be less than 5 tons.

Folding windows UAZ 469

The manufacturer does not provide window lifters in the doors of the UAZ 469. The upper part of the door, together with the glass, is installed with bolts. Main and additional lighting

To drive in poor visibility conditions, car owners replace the main headlights and install additional lighting. It may consist of headlights or LED modules. Unlike LED modules, headlights have a lower cost.

Central piston group

Starter and generator

The engine is started by an electric starter. It is possible to install a more powerful starter. This will allow the flywheel of the power unit to spin faster when starting.


Electrical equipment power supply and charging batteries when the engine is running, it is carried out from a DC generator. It is belt driven from the crankshaft pulley. When installing additional lighting, it is necessary to install a more powerful generator. A generator from a GAZ 53 car will do.

Modernization of the intake and exhaust tract

It is necessary to remove obstacles to the flow of air and the exit of exhaust gases from the power unit. Obstacles form where the gaskets are installed. The absence of thresholds allows the working mixture to flow freely into the combustion chamber. To improve the permeability of the air mass, UAZ owners install air filters from other cars.

Suspension and transmission

Modernization of the transmission and chassis of the vehicle improves off-road performance. To increase comfort, the UAZ 469 is equipped with a spring front suspension with disc brakes.

Most well-known off-road professionals can boast of a high level of modification and modification of SUVs, but everyone has different experience and preferences, and therefore it can be difficult to find craftsmen in accordance with your tastes. The owner of this domestic jeep was lucky: an avid hunter turned to “Tuning Center 4X4”, where they know and know how to prepare cars of this brand “Under the Gun”.

We don't need diesel

Perhaps the most important thing when building an SUV is to decide exactly in what conditions and for what it will be used, otherwise the “life together” of the owner with his car will turn into a living hell: there is no pleasure, and it’s a pity to sell - the money spent on preparation cannot be returned. The owner of this SUV does not participate in the trophy; he prefers to travel in another car, but wants to drive a “goat” from the city to the forest - to spend a few days alone with nature. This means that the “source code” must be as simple as possible, reliable, prepared in such a way that it can be pulled out of an “ambush” alone, and on the asphalt, in the flow of traffic, to stay level.

The car was produced in 2010, but with almost zero mileage, equipped with an unpretentious ZMZ-409 engine, made to meet Euro 3 econorms, and it suited this role perfectly. The engine is fuel-injected, but with a mechanical rather than electronic gas pedal. Apart from the electronic “brains” there are only knock sensors and crankshaft position sensors - there is practically nothing to “glitch”. The engine has not been touched, it produces 115 “in stock” horsepower and at a cruising speed of 110-120 km/h it consumes about 15 liters of 92-grade gasoline, which today is much cheaper than diesel fuel, so there is no need to mess with the unreliable, although more economical, Trans-Volga diesel engine. If desired, the “brains” can be “expanded” to 130 horses and the catalyst thrown out, but for now we decided to leave everything as it is, only the air intake now occurs through a neat RIF snorkel. Caps through which silicone wires pass high voltage, well protect candles located in “wells” from moisture. The breathers of all transmission units are located under the hood.

More comfort

469 UAZ already from the factory had a spring front suspension and disc brakes on the front axle, but this is not enough for comfortable driving on broken roads, so the rear suspension was also made with springs. Conversion kit, specially developed for UAZ, consists of standard spare parts from the Ulyanovsk Automobile Plant: Panhard rod and trailing arms. It was only necessary to weld the brackets for their fastening and the platforms for the rear springs. At the same time, they put back disc brakes. By the way, both the springs and shock absorbers are Ironman, with their help it was possible to raise the body by seven centimeters and at the same time avoid “body lift”. I also had to work on the front axle: the original plastic pin inserts are not reliable, if you “trot” on broken roads, they usually break after a few thousand kilometers. The solution to this problem was invented a long time ago: installing bearings in pivot units. The “hubs” were replaced with manual ones from AVM.

Locks and winches

The right choice of tires is fifty percent of off-road success. Super Swamper Bogger 33x12.5 tires on stamped Offroad Wheels wheels are just what we need, although in order to “stick” them in, we had to slightly trim the wheel arches. It’s also hard without locking, so screw self-locking differentials from the Togliatti company VAL Racing settled in both axles: at the rear with 50% and at the front with a 70% degree of blocking; V transfer case installed a lowering kit. But in a single fight against mud “ambushes”, the main assistants are still winches: two RUNVA 9500 “winches” with steel cables with a traction force of 4350 kg each settled in the front and rear power bumpers of the RIF.

"FACELIFT" AND "RESTYLING"

Off-road fashion, like any other, is constantly changing. The new trend of the season is Raptor protective coating. The UAZ has been treated entirely by Raptor. Inside, all “bare” metal surfaces, even dashboard, are covered with a black matte synthetic composition, and the “swamp” camouflage on the outside reliably protects the body not only from branches, but also from unwanted eyes.

RIF bumpers, of course, with platforms for winches. The front one has a powerful “kengurin”, on which additional LED optics are attached, the rear one has a gate and two towbars: “native” UAZ hook and “American”, under the square. The standard gas tanks are protected, as are the steering rods; a stationary compressor with a receiver is installed to inflate the wheels and supply air to the pneumatic signal.

All four door transoms are made folding - you don’t have to worry about unscrewing the fasteners to remove them in the hot summer. The place of the wretched standard seats was taken by two luxurious leather chairs from the BMW X3 with electrical adjustments in all directions, the rear sofa was removed, two folding chairs from Nissan Patrol, which occupy much less volume in the cargo compartment. A stove made by NAMI was installed in place of the standard one: it is larger, more powerful and more convenient to use. The damper control unit is within easy reach, the fan motor has three speeds, and there is no need to reach under the hood to shut off the supply of hot coolant. The picture of off-road restyling is completed by a plastic shelf with a built-in radio; it does not interfere with removing the awning and remains in place when UAZ turns into a convertible.

QUESTION PRICE

We all know well that it is impossible to complete the construction of the dream car, you just need to be able to stop in time. Obsessed UAZ drivers, in their excitement, can dump several million into their creations. Simple iron bumpers, which are all throwaway, and you don’t have to overpay for their cost.

The cost of the car in this configuration was 339 thousand, naturally, we fought against the actively imposed “additional additions”; we managed to do this only by roughly describing the upcoming scope of work, which clearly earned the respect of the manager.

The craftsmen set to work with enthusiasm, especially since, as always, at the beginning of the construction process, the passion for destruction that lives in everyone is realized. Everything was dismantled from the car, for some reason, by someone - screwed and adjusted “unnecessary things”, namely: standard wheels, bumpers, interior along with the upholstery that was always picking up moisture, the stove, and the ceiling upholstery was also dismantled for safety. The car was placed on wheels of various colors and sizes, collected throughout the workshop. Standard wheels, interior, trim and rear bumper, quickly found new owners.

After dismantling the interior, a huge hole was cut out in the ceiling, into which, by installing amplifiers, a large hunting hatch was inserted, which can be opened to the position: ventilation, and also by removing the cotter pins (which remain hanging on a chain and are not lost), the hatch is completely reclined, and in the resulting opening two hundred kilogram guys in winter clothes can easily fit. The hatch is lined with aluminum and insulated to prevent condensation from forming.

The hatch tilts completely and, in the folded position, is independently fixed on the mating parts attached to the trunk.

At the top there is ventilation position, at the bottom the hatch is fully tilted.

The floors and inner sides of the car, the rear side and door cavities were completely lined first with vibration insulation, then with sound insulation, and only after that they were sheathed with aluminum, all joints were sealed, and a flat floor was also made instead of a “turtle”.

An upper shelf was made, in which, in addition to a niche for maps, cigarettes and other similar things, there were located: a radio tape recorder, a walkie-talkie, a navigation light, a relay and fuse block for additional light, in the console between the shelf and the interior lamp there are control keys for the “chandelier” and additional headlights on the bumper.

The dashboard was covered with a stylish stainless steel trim, the structure repeating the pattern of the leather interior; the steering column cover was also re-made and covered with vinyl.

Standard stove, gave way to the NAMI-7 stove with cabin filter, for additional consumers, the number of cigarette lighter sockets on the dashboard has been increased to three.

A leather interior from a Honda CRV was installed, with separate longitudinal and tilt adjustment of the rear seats and heating of the front ones, the interior has many possibilities for transformation and easily turns into a comfortable sleeping place for two people. Also, thanks to the large longitudinal adjustment of the rear sofas, standing upright in the hatch is very comfortable, and while driving, rear passengers can ride with their legs fully extended. When fully folded rear seats a huge space for luggage is created.

The steering wheel has been replaced with a more comfortable and ergonomic one. The MVT company logo fits seamlessly into the center.

The windows of the rear semicircle are tinted.

A ventilated compartment for the second battery is built into the floor of the rear part of the body; the disconnect buttons for both batteries are located to the left of the steering wheel and have an on indicator.

A snorkel is installed from the engine compartment to the roof level.

In the car suspension. It was also decided to make significant changes.

Springs, shock absorbers, springs and solent blocks were replaced with a set from the Australian company DOBINSONS, developed specifically for UAZ cars, which provide a suspension lift of + 5 cm and significantly improve the car’s behavior on the road.

Protected, shockproof halogen headlights with variable focus from LIGHTFORCE are installed on the front part of the OJ bumper.

After a 5 cm body lift and suspension lift, NOKIAN wheels with dimensions 285x75x16 were chosen, which were assembled at alloy wheels Korean company SWIGER.

To confidently ensure evacuation, in the front and rear bumper Well-proven U4x4 winches are installed, with a remote control and a pulling force of 12,500 pounds.

After all the components were assembled together, the installation of the power body kit provided by the OJ Company began, and the attachment of additional equipment to the body kit.

First, we installed power thresholds with fuel tank protection.

Then the front bumper was installed, with a platform for a winch, protective grilles, and horns for quickly winding the cable. The bumper and sills are interconnected by removable protective arches.

Also, protection for steering rods and side windows was installed; by the way, protection for the side windows (with proper fastening) serves perfectly as steps for accessing the trunk.

At the rear, a currently unique OJ bumper was installed, which combines: a power bumper, a platform for a winch, a gate, a platform for a hi-jack, a bracket for a removable towbar, an illuminated license plate mounting frame and a cup holder (where would we be without a cup holder, in halt time).

As a result, having put all the components together, we got the following: practical, easy to operate, as comfortable as possible, retaining everything positive qualities and acquired new advantages - the old, kind, brutally beautiful UAZ-469 NEW from the MVT Company.

Briefly about the history of the UAZ-469

The UAZ-469 car is a completely Soviet development. Serial production cars was started in 1970 at the Ulyanovsk Automobile Plant. Initially, the vehicle was intended for use in army units, as well as in the structures of internal affairs bodies.

Installation of power kits

Of course, this is true, but it is precisely this factor that increases the off-road capability of your car.

This design will protect you from large branches and stones. It will also help protect your car when you encounter a moose or other large animal on the road.




Installation of additional optics

For those who like to travel at night, lighting plays an important role. Experienced car owners will say that your UAZ needs an additional chandelier. And there is a certain reason for this. Anyone can install additional lighting devices themselves, using a radiator grille or roof rack.

The devices can be designed as headlights or lightbars. Headlights can consist of 5-8 LEDs behind glass. The lightbar is a one-piece structure made of many LEDs (usually 32 pcs.).

Electric winches and their installation

A simple mechanism with an electric drive and gearbox will help pull the car out of the mud or snowdrift.
