dimensions

Proper comfort in the car interior is ensured by a relatively large wheelbase for its class. Datsun developers have perfectly prepared mi-DO for use on roads with poor quality surfaces. Excellent cross-country ability in the city and beyond is ensured by ground clearance and chassis, which is specially adjusted for use in areas with poor surface conditions.

Trunk

The Datsun Mi-DO has a practical trunk and holds 240 liters. With the seats folded down, the loading space will noticeably increase by about three times. A well-designed rear door allows you to load the car to capacity. The rear seat backs can be folded down, which will help gain some more space.

Under the floor in the trunk you can store a full-size spare tire.

Engine

Under the hood of the hatchback mi-DO is located Gas engine, which is installed in on-DO and Lada models. The eight-valve unit has a working volume of 1.6 liters (1596 cm3). At 5100 rpm the maximum engine potential reaches 87 Horse power, which is considered a good parameter in the technical characteristics of this class. The engine meets established environmental standards.

Transmission

The machine is equipped manual transmission transmissions with five steps or automatic with four to choose from. The manual transmission allows the car to accelerate to one hundred kilometers per hour in 12.2 seconds, while the automatic transmission takes about 14 seconds. Maximum speed for a manual transmission it reaches 168 km/h, and for an automatic transmission it reaches 161 km/h. In a number of characteristics, an automatic transmission is inferior to a mechanized one.

Fuel consumption

In a mixed cycle with manual transmission for 100 kilometers five-door hatchback consumes about 7 liters of fuel, with automatic transmission consumption will be reduced to 0.7. In the city, an automatic consumes one and a half liters of fuel more than a manual (10.4 liters).

Suspension

The Datsun mi-DO is equipped with front-wheel drive, which it inherited from the second generation Lada Kalina. The difference is that the “Japanese” received a modernized suspension, which is being adjusted by specialists from Nissan and Renault.

The front wheels are secured to the body using McPherson struts, which have long become a classic. The rear wheels use a transmission beam with a semi-independent circuit. Hatchback Datsun mi-DO equipped gas-filled shock absorbers. Balanced suspension elements make the car reliable and guarantee road safety.

Steering and braking system

All modifications of the Datsun mi-DO are equipped with electric power steering, front disc and rear drum brakes (B budget trim levels ABS and EBD are used, and in the maximum ones additionally BAS).

Results

Compact dimensions, worthy specifications and reasonable price make the Russian-Japanese Datsun Mi-DO interesting for many car enthusiasts.

Price: from 462,000 rub.

A new product on the Russian market and only for the Russian market from the revived Japanese brand went on sale in 2015 and was called Datsun mi-DO 2015-2016. This is the first car from this brand that appeared in Russia after the revival of the company. Let us recall that Datsun presented its first model in India in 2014, it was a budget hatchback built on the basis and received only new body and salon.

The Russian version of the budget car mi-DO is built on the basis of the domestic Lada Kalina and is essentially its own progenitor, but with a modernized body that is distinguished by a streamlined shape that provides good aerodynamics. Initially, when the car was presented in August 2014, the price was planned to be 300-350 thousand rubles, but market realities dictate their conditions, and in 2015 the basic version was priced at 415 thousand rubles, and the maximum configuration, called Dream, was priced at 465 thousand rubles.

Taking into account the rising prices for cars of other brands, the Japanese new car, produced, by the way, in Tolyatti at the Volzhsky Automobile Plant, is one of the most affordable and favorable in terms of price-quality ratio on the domestic market.

Datsun mi-DO 2016 design

From the front, the car does not bear much resemblance to the model with which it is constantly compared. There is a completely different and more beautiful bumper, and the model also has a completely different radiator grille with a chrome trim. The headlights, which are equipped with lenses, look very attractive, and under them in the bumper there are already round fog lights.

When you look at the car from the side, you will already notice a great similarity with Kalina. The car received more swollen wheel arches, unlike its brother, and this is probably the only difference on the side. At the rear, as well as at the front, the model received a considerable number of changes, as well as at the front, a new, more attractive bumper, new rather beautiful optics and an exhaust pipe with a more beautiful appearance. Also, the trunk lid has some stampings that are almost invisible. In principle, there are no more changes, but be sure to look at the photos or videos to understand exactly what the car has become.

Also, the mi-DO model has not changed much in size:

  • length – 3950 mm;
  • width – 1700 mm;
  • height – 1500 mm;
  • wheelbase – 2476 mm;
  • ground clearance - 174 mm.

Technical specifications Datsun mi-DO 2015

The car inherited from its progenitor a power unit that is widely known to all car enthusiasts. An eight-valve petrol engine with a volume of 1.6 liters and a power of 87 horsepower was placed under the hood. It has become the only choice for the buyer of the Datsun Mi-DO 2016; there are no plans to install other power units yet. With the choice of gearboxes, things are a little better; here you can decide whether a five-speed manual or a four-speed automatic will be more convenient, the latter will increase the price of the car by 40 thousand rubles.

A huge advantage of the engine is that the owner will never face a shortage of spare parts, because the time-tested engine rides under the hood of tens of thousands of cars across the country, and in every, even the most seedy service center, these engines have been seen more than one hundred times. It is true that the dynamics of the car most likely do not exceed its progenitor, but the manufacturer has not yet said a word about this. But what is certain is that for a city dweller this will be an excellent option for a Datsun mi-DO car, the characteristics of which will be enough to move in city traffic.

Interior

As for the interior decoration, everything here is like in budget cars of the same class, typical plastic, fabric upholstery. The knobs and buttons are informative and quite pleasant to the touch, the instrument panel is informative and understandable, only the tachometer and speedometer are mechanical, everything else is included in the on-board computer, which is controlled from the right-hand steering wheel switch. The luggage compartment is the same as on, ample in size and with a full-size spare tire hidden under the floor.

Even in basic configuration the car is equipped with:

  • two front airbags
  • front electric windows
  • electric mirrors
  • heated seats
  • central locking

The more expensive variations of the Datsun Mi-DO 2016 are also available:

  • rain and light sensors
  • multimedia system with the ability to read flash media such as SD and USB, as well as the function of connecting a smartphone
  • rear power windows
  • fog lights
  • heated windshield and mirrors
  • air conditioner
  • climate climate control.

The front passenger seats of the Datsun mi-DO 2015 are comfortable, but they are simple and have a small number of adjustments, including mechanical ones. The back row can easily accommodate three passengers, for each of them there are headrests and a large amount of headroom, but the amount of free legroom is not enough.

Externally, the car turned out to be quite nice, the designers, just like in the Datsun GO, tried to incorporate a kind of aggressiveness into the appearance, but here, due to the larger dimensions, they did it better, the large radiator grille looks just great and gives the car a recognizable look. When making a choice and buying this model, you should be prepared for the fact that you will not be the object of everyone’s attention on the road, because the design is consistent with modern automotive fashion and does not catch the eye with anything remarkable.

Now a few words about the smooth ride, the Datsun mi-DO 2016 car’s characteristics really pleasantly surprise you, it immediately becomes clear why the platform was taken as the basis domestic Lada Viburnum. The car is fully adapted to Russian realities. The car handles the road perfectly, handles unevenness effortlessly and, importantly, has not the worst brakes. Sufficiently high ground clearance allows you to go where most cars of this class are not allowed to go. So the car is quite suitable not only for ordinary city residents, but also for lovers of outdoor trips, of course, this is not frame SUV, but most competitors cannot boast of such capabilities, and at such a price and equipment the car remains practically uncompetitive.

Video

"Datsun Mi-DO" is a Japanese-Russian hatchback that has been mass-produced since 2014. This car was first presented to the public at the Moscow International Auto Exhibition. The car is produced in Russia. The manufacturer does not hide the fact that the second generation Kalina platform was taken as the basis. In today's article we will look at all the features of mi-DO. Reviews, photos, technical specifications and other useful information are further in our article.

Design

Externally, the car strongly resembles the VAZ Kalina. There are the same “evil” headlights, aggressive look and sculpted hood. The only thing that has been changed is the bumper. It received a wide radiator grille with a pronounced chrome trim. In the middle of the grille is a huge Datsun emblem. And the shape of the bumper itself has changed a little. As for the side line, the shapes and proportions are the same. Even the architecture of the mirrors remained the same. Despite the plagiarism, the appearance of the car deserves attention. Reviews say that the car is suitable not only for women, but also for men. There are no details here that clearly indicate belonging to a particular gender. This car is universal. The Datsun looks especially impressive in bright orange. The hatchback is able to stand out from the crowd without any tuning. And this is a big plus for Datsun mi-DO.

Reviews note the special shape and design. They are extended upward and do not have yellow turn signals. Most of the lanterns are made in white. The trunk lid has nice lines. On rear window There is an additional brake light and a compact wiper. The top of the roof has a small protrusion at the end. This looks like a small spoiler. There are two cutouts at the bottom of the bumper. One is for the muffler pipe, and the second is for the tow hook. I would like more plugs in the Datsun mi-DO. Reviews from owners say that this hook can be successfully hidden under a plastic plug. But alas, there is no such thing even in the maximum configuration. The same applies to the muffler in the Datsun mi-DO hatchback. Owner reviews on this matter are negative. Chrome attachments have to be purchased separately. A simple pipe, which also quickly becomes covered with rust, does not look very presentable. Versions with parking sensors are also not without their drawbacks. Thus, the manufacturer does not paint the sensors in body color. These obsessive black dots still remain in the bumper.

Dimensions, ground clearance

Regarding the size of the Datsun mi-DO, reviews note that the car is quite compact. The length of the five-door hatchback is 3.95 meters, width - 1.7 meters, height - exactly 1.5 meters. At the same time, the car does not lack ground clearance. Standard equipment ground clearance is as much as 17.5 centimeters. This figure is comparable to the Lada Largus Cross. The car overcomes potholes without any problems and feels confident on all bumps. The Datsun mi-DO also drives very well on dirt roads. Reviews from many owners say that in this car you can safely go to the forest on vacation, filling the trunk to capacity. The clearance reserve is quite large.

Salon

The interior design is no different from the “ON-DO” sedan. There are also elements of “Kalina” (for example, round air ducts on the sides). The steering wheel is three-spoke, with silver inserts and a company logo. On the center console there is a climate control unit and a radio. By the way, the latter in top trim levels is a touchscreen multimedia center. There are two cup holders at the bottom. On the passenger side there is a spacious glove compartment. There is a cutout at the top for an airbag. The mirrors are electrically driven (just like the windows).

Is the Datsun mi-DO 1.6 AT well assembled inside? Reviews say that the cladding materials and plastic are very cheap. In the trim levels it is impossible to choose the interior color scheme. And the black interior looks very sparse and dull. The driver's seat has flat lateral support. There is little free space in the cabin. As reviews say about the Datsun mi-DO 1.6 AT, this is a purely city car. On long distances driving is very difficult. The driver gets very tired during the trip. The second row of seats has folding backrests. It will be difficult for an adult passenger to fit here.

There is a catastrophic lack of space in the back. As for the trunk volume, it is 260 liters. Reviews say that it is not suitable for transporting large items, even despite the folding backrests. The fact is that the Datsun Mi-DO has a high loading line. The protruding wheel arches also greatly obscure the space. And the backrest itself folds in a ratio of 60:40. Therefore, it will not be possible to get a flat floor. The only thing that pleases is the presence of a full-size spare wheel under the floor, and not a “crutch” in the form of a stowage.

Datsun mi do The hatchback became the second model of the Japanese budget brand, after the sedan. The advantages of the hatch include its affordable price and interesting configurations. Like the sedan, the new Datsun 5-door is created according to the same recipe. The Lada Kalina was taken as the basis, which was modernized, both technically and in appearance and internal content.

The use of a domestic platform, main components and assemblies, and Avtovaz production facilities made it possible to create a fairly budget hatchback.

Yes, Datsuns are assembled in Tolyatti at AvtoVAZ. Of course the car is a little more expensive than the same one Lada Kalina, but the quality of welding, painting, and assembly is also better. The main thing is that Datsun mi do has its own sound insulation. After all, Kalina owners have quite a lot of complaints about the Shumka. In addition to noise insulation, the suspension was modernized, and the result was quite comfortable. budget car.

Exterior or appearance Datsun mi do created in Datsun's own corporate style, which was already used on the first Indian Datsuns. Let’s say right away that Indian versions of budget cars have nothing in common with Russian cars except the name. Datsun mi do received a large and expressive radiator grille, large optics, an original hood and bumpers. The rear optics are also original. But if you look from the side, the relationship between Kalina and mi-do is obvious. Let's look photos of the Datsun mi do hatch Further.

Photo of Datsun mi before

Salon Datsun mi do identical to the interior of the Datsun sedan. But the naked eye can see that the interior was made according to the patterns of the Lada Kalina, but with the addition of its own unique features. Large steering wheel it looks like it should become a common design solution for all models of the Japanese budget brand. The seats are not much different in terms of comfort and convenience from what is found on domestic Lada cars. The interior capacity of the hatch is small, because the wheelbase is no more and no less than that of the Kalina. In top trim levels, there is a 7-inch touchscreen monitor with built-in navigation maps in the center console. In the middle versions there is a monochrome display of the multimedia system. Photos of the interior of the Datsun Mi before below.

Trunk Datsun mi do not big, only 240 liters of volume, up to the shelf. However, if you fold the rear seats, then the loading space increases almost three times. The rear door allows loading to the ceiling. In general, the rear seat backrest folds in a proportion of 60 to 40. In any case, the hatchback is a fairly practical body, even with a short overall body length. By the way, under the floor in the trunk of the Datsun MI-DO there is a full-size spare wheel.

In technical terms, the Japanese budget hatch is very similar to Kalina. Under the hood there is a single petrol 8-valve power unit with a displacement of 1.6 liters (VAZ-21116) with a power of 87 hp (torque 140 Nm). But if the Datsun sedan only has a 5-speed manual transmission. Then for the mi do hatchback a 4-band automatic transmission from Lada is also offered. The manufacturer recommends using AI-95 gasoline. As for dynamics, acceleration to hundreds with manual transmission is about 12 seconds, and fuel consumption is about 9 liters in city mode. With an automatic, the characteristics are different. The car is a little more voracious and slower to accelerate.

I would like to draw special attention to the suspension of the Datsun mi do, it was seriously redesigned, as a result, new springs, shock absorbers and, of course, appeared high ground clearance. The ground clearance of mi do is 174 mm, which is even more than that of the same Lada Kalina. Further more detailed overall characteristics hatch.

Datsun mi do price quite attractive if you ignore the Russian roots of the car and think that this is a Japanese car, albeit a budget one. There are two main configurations: Trust and Dream, plus several additional versions. The starting price of the car is currently 432,000 rubles. For this money, the buyer receives a hatchback with a 1.6 liter engine (87 hp), plus a 5-speed manual transmission. box. Options include front power windows, central locking, heated and adjustable mirrors, heated front seats, ABS+BAS+EBD, front airbags, electric power steering. For an automatic transmission in all MI-do configurations, you will need to pay exactly 40 thousand rubles. For climate control they ask for another 20 thousand rubles. A multimedia system (2DIN size) with a monochrome screen, 4 speakers, USB, SD card slot, Bluetooth, HandsFree will cost another 10,000 rubles.

The most expensive equipment of Datsun Mi up to Dream has a price of 516,000 rubles(manual transmission) and 556 thousand (with automatic transmission). This version already has 15-inch alloy wheels. In addition to the front ones, there are even side airbags for front passengers. ESC - an electronic stabilization system is also present, as well as a heated windshield, rain and light sensors, rear parking sensors, and a multimedia system with a 7-inch monitor (built-in navigation). The driver's seat is height adjustable.

Quite a decent budget car, which in terms of options is not inferior to cars of a higher class, while Datsun has a reasonable price.

Another model of the new budget brand from Japan Datsun will soon appear in Russia. New Datsun Mi up there is another one in the hatchback body affordable car with an interesting appearance. If the first model is aimed at conquering regions, then the hatchback is aimed at urban residents.

The new affordable sedan doesn’t even have an automatic transmission, but for hatchback Datsun Mi Do automatic transmission is provided. The car, like its closest relative, is built on the Lada Kalina platform. Accordingly, in technical terms, the Russian-Japanese project will be similar.

The very idea of using the Lada platform in their cars could play a cruel joke on Datsun. The car will not be perceived as Japanese, especially since this brand is not very familiar to our customers. They will choose the cheaper Lada or perceive the Datsun as a modernized modification of the Kalina/Granta. That is, the same Lada, but with a different appearance and more thoughtful sound insulation and comfort. There is too little Japanese in the car, but for that there is a lot from the long-suffering Lada. Soon sales of Datsun cars will show how successful the development strategy was chosen by the leaders of the Russian division of Datsun.

Externally Datsun mi-DO similar to Kalina, especially from the side, and to the Datsun sedan from the front. The Datsun designers didn’t try to split hairs, they took our Lada as a basis, installed the optics, bumper and radiator grille from the on-DO model in front, and installed the original optics in the back, in the end it turned out well. Let's look photo of hatchback Datsun Mi Do.

Video Datsun mi before

There are no full video test drives of the Datsun hatchback yet. However, the official video presentation of the new Datsun mi-DO is available online. A small video trailer from the manufacturer, watch it.

If for fate budget sedan on-DO, you can be calm, then what are the market prospects for the mi-DO hatchback? Apparently, marketers are targeting urban youth who do not need to take their belongings to the dacha. Actually, let’s not forget about the competition from the same Kalina 2. Having an automatic machine will help you find your buyers, but are buyers in this very budget segment ready to overpay for the still little-known Datsun brand!?

Among the car abundance at the stands of the Moscow motor show MIAS-2014, the Datsun mi-DO hatchback attracted special attention of Russian visitors. This model is unique, because never before in the history of the automotive industry has there been a case where a Japanese car was built on the basis of a Russian passenger car. And the five-door mi-DO is precisely such a unique, foundation-shattering event, because the brainchild Japanese company Nissan was designed on the basis of the famous development of the Togliatti engineers of the “” model.

What is the history of Datsun and what is the connection with Nissan?

A meticulous reader may wonder what Nissan has to do with it if we are talking about a passenger car called Datsun Mi-Do. But the connection here is direct and most immediate, because, in fact, in the world of automotive manufacturing, “first there was the word” Datsun and only then the company was absorbed, reorganized and renamed Nissan. And then a year and a half ago, after two decades of oblivion, the Japanese decided to bring the old brand back to life in order to launch production under this name inexpensive cars for growing markets, such as Indian, South African and our Russian and Ukrainian. And since now Nissan, together with Renault, actually owns our VAZ, it was decided to open the production of cars under the Datsun brand in the Russian Federation.

Name Datsun mi-DO

The Japanese love imagery and the very specific meaning hidden in unusual poetic structures. By calling the new hatchback the verbal design mi-DO, the manufacturers wanted to emphasize the international features of the unusual Russian- Japanese car. The word DO in Japanese means “path”, “movement” or “striving towards something”, and the particle Mi is used as an analogue of the sound of the English word me, which can be translated as “my”. As a result, the new hatch has the pretentious name “my way” or “my tool for achieving something.”

Appearance of the new mi-DO hatchback

A little earlier, under this revived brand, the on-DO sedan was presented, which was also created on the basis of a small car, which at one time received flattering characteristics from the lips of Putin himself. Therefore, when examining the appearance of a new Japanese car, most viewers will compare the mi-DO with the Kalina and the above-mentioned sedan, trying to recognize the similarities or rejoice at the differences.

The new five-door Datsun mi-DO, to be honest, is somewhat similar to the Kalina hatchback body variation. This is especially noticeable when viewed in profile, but to the credit of the Japanese, it must be admitted that they very effectively fought against the manifestation of family ties in their brainchild with the Russian maternal model. The profile was adjusted using moldings to match the body color and alloy wheels. When viewed from the front, the similarity is completely minimal, because the “Japanese” has a completely different “front”. There is a more modern bumper and optics of a fashionable shape and an unusual cut of the radiator grille. These elements are similar to the counterparts installed on the “brother” called on-DO, but it cannot be said that the models are visual twins. Well, of course, the rear of the hatch is not at all similar to the rear of the sedan, and the Mi-Do is as much as 620 mm shorter than the four-door Datsun.

The exterior of the Japanese hatch looks much more modern than the appearance of the ever-memorable Kalina. This is a completely modern and respectable car with a fairly dynamic appearance. The compact features of the car make it a clear contender for the title of “master of the city,” and the presence of fashionable details may well allow the model to take its rightful place in the category of “youth cars.”

If there are differences in appearance between the on-DO sedan and the mi-DO hatchback, then the manufacturer decided to use complete identity in the interior decoration. The interior of the cabin is laconic with a fair amount of practicality. The front panel is quite compact, and the plastic used does not make it look too cheap and boring. By the way, the task of defeating interior squeaks, which were a distinctive feature of all VAZ and Kalina models, including, was completed by engineers from Datsun. They paid a lot of attention to anti-noise preparation of the interior, which ultimately bore fruit - the driver and passengers will only distantly hear the noise of the road and the engine.

Pictured is a car trunk

The front row seats are quite comfortable, and the second row can easily accommodate three adults. Backrests rear seats can be folded in a ratio of 60 to 40, which allows you to put bulky items in the luggage compartment. The trunk is not very large (less than 240 liters), but since we're talking about not about an SUV, then the owner is unlikely to transport large amounts of luggage.

Price and options

The sale of the hatchback is scheduled for the first ten days of 2015 and it has already been announced that it will be sold in three configuration options: Access, Trust and Dream. The cost of each of them has not yet been announced, but dealers say that, most likely, the price of the Datsun mi-DO will be approximately the same as that of the On-Do sedan, which is sold in the Russian Federation, starting from 329 and ending with 445 thousand rubles . Let us remind you that Kalina is sold in Russia from 327,500 rubles.

Datsun mi-Do - this hatchback entered the market a little later than its sedan brother. However, it seems that he is not at all going to yield to the latter in popularity, actively winning the hearts of car dealership customers. It is immediately clear that the car is aimed at young people - and the body is more suitable here, and its color scheme, which includes a signature bright orange color scheme, should attract precisely such buyers. It’s not for nothing that they predict a third of all sales in Russia!

The signature Mi-Do shade definitely suits him!

Of course, the Datsun brand cannot boast of excessive prestige, but still the words about buying a “Japanese-made car” sound solid, even if for this you have to cheat a little. After all, the Datsun mi-Do is simply a restyled Lada Kalina, although, recognizing this, any hatchback owner immediately begins to list the differences between his iron horse and the domestic one.

If you don’t know that the prototype for the Mi-Do was the Lada Kalina, then the Japanese hatchback can easily be mistaken for an original model.

The Japanese are also diligently creating a high-profile image for their models, hoping not only for sales in Russia, but also for exporting cars to neighboring countries. However, in order to really justify the high bar set, Asians will have to try, not only in terms of creating a car, but also in terms of dealer service, which should be noticeably better than VAZ's.

In an effort to find out the attitude of ordinary car owners towards the hatchback, journalists conducted a kind of survey, the results of which can be seen in this video:

Appearance Datsun Mi-Do

There is no doubt about the relationship with Kalina, and some design decisions were made, as they say, “by contradiction.” Here is the first confirmation of this. If it has a thin radiator grille and a powerful air intake, then everything is the other way around - a small air intake and a massive grille with a large emblem.

The differences with Kalina are visible, as they say, to the naked eye. However, the similarities are also obvious.

And the lid of the Mi-Do is even, whereas the Lada has a license plate on it, the place of which is on the Datsun rear bumper. Everything else is very similar - hood, doors, bumpers, fenders, optics, rear, etc. Of course, the style is a little different, but the outline is the same. The doors of mi-Do are simple, without unnecessary stampings, tail lights elongated, the roof is slightly tilted back, etc.

During the Moscow Motor Show in 2014, this hatchback was presented at the stand, and in the branded color scheme. He came to the attention of journalist Sergei Znaemsky:

Datsun mi-Do engine

If we state dry technical data, then the 8-valve engine clearly does not impress with its power. 87 l. s., available only in the upper range (at 5,100 rpm), as well as 140 Nm of torque at 3,800 rpm - all this is already familiar from Grant. The engine is oriented to Euro-4 standards, and the hatchback only needs to be refueled with 95-octane gasoline.

The engine of the Datsun model has no alternative, but it is better than you expect.

But its dynamics will largely depend on the type of gearbox, as well as appetite. So, on the “stick” acceleration takes 12 seconds, and with AT you will have to be patient for 14.3 seconds. it “exceeds” ten, although in the passport data the figures for a liter are 2-3 less.

Despite the fact that the engine is well-known, an overview of its engine is presented in this story:

Transmission

The 5-gear manual transmission has an alternative in the form of a 4-band automatic transmission from Jatco.

Oddly enough, it was the “mechanics” that turned out to be the weak link.

It is this transmission that distinguishes the Mi-Do from a sedan, where buyers are forced to be content with only a “handle”. However, there are no technical revelations here.

The high-quality operation of the automatic transmission allows you to forget that the “automatic” is only 4-band.

Datsun mi-Do suspension

Here, too, everything is traditional - there are McPherson struts at the front, and a torsion beam at the rear. The brakes are disc at the front and drum at the rear. Technically, the car also boasts an electric power steering.

An ordinary torsion beam - there is nothing to surprise Datsun with.

Driving sensations

But on the emotional level, the situation with the engine is much rosier. It is unexpectedly playful and assertive - it starts quite briskly and spins smoothly to the limiter. It is not surprising that the Japanese did not change anything in it, except for calibration to Idling. But there is also a minus - the engine is quite noisy. Asians tried to solve the problem by improving the soundproofing layer, but they were not very successful in this, although the effect, in comparison with Kalina, is still noticeable.

Also, both paparazzi and drivers note that the speed in the hatchback is perceived differently from reality - when accelerating to 80 km/h, it seems that the car is already rushing to the limit.

The feeling of speed in Mi-Do is quite unique.

With gearboxes, things are a little more complicated. Contrary to expectations, it is the “mechanics” that let down Mi-Do. And this despite all Nissan press releases, which more than once emphasized that cable drive transmission guarantees a lot of advantages - there is clear gear shifting, and low level noise and reduced vibrations. But in reality, everything is far from being so optimistic - the speeds are turned on “not very well”, and sometimes the rear one has to be hammered into the groove. Yes, and there are problems with noise - from time to time the box begins to howl, and this dreary symphony can even make the driver lose his mood. Only a properly configured clutch can save you.

The clarity of gear shifts in the Mi-Do definitely needs improvement.

But the “automatic machine” completely rehabilitates Mi-Do! No wonder they are asking 40,000 rubles for it. – he fulfills them 100%. The automatic transmission juggles gears clearly and quickly, and as a pleasant bonus for the driver there are additional modes designed to hold low gears. And this is a bold “+” for a hatchback! When driving uphill, this function is simply irreplaceable.

Additional modes are a great help when driving uphill.

The main thing is to first count 3 clicks from “Parking” to “Drive” so as not to overshoot it. As a nice bonus, there is also an overdrive activation key, which will make it possible to save a couple of liters of fuel at cruising speeds.

Mode D is in the third position from the top - this is important to remember.

With the suspension everything is ambivalent. On the one hand, it is this part of Mi-Do that clearly proves its indestructibility - it is simply unrealistic to make it work for a breakdown! Elastic shock absorbers and 174 mm ground clearance allow you to forget that you are in a hatchback - it moves no worse than a real crossover! Potholes, potholes, speed bumps and others free apps to the modern roads of our Fatherland will not become an obstacle for the driver who has chosen the Datsun Mi-Do.

It’s better not to leave the well-worn road in a hatchback.

The other side of the coin is shaking - the hatchback literally shakes the soul out of its riders, diligently transmitting all the imperfections of the road into the cabin. This is especially true for the rear passengers, since when actively driving over uneven surfaces, the stern begins to be frighteningly thrown into the air. This also bothers the driver, because vibrations are transmitted to the steering wheel, which already does not suffer from excessive performance.

The feedback on the mi-Do steering wheel is clearly insufficient.

The electric power steering is not able to provide sharp steering. As a result, the feedback leaves much to be desired. In the city, such annoyance is not too noticeable, but on the highway it is downright annoying. After all, the steering wheel not only does not react to small deviations from “zero,” but the amplifier throws up another surprise in the form of an unauthorized change in force.

The brakes also do not shine, despite all the claims about increasing their efficiency thanks to the installation vacuum booster. The brakes are “wobbly”, so to obtain a deceleration (even a small one), you need to diligently press the pedal.

Despite the “advanced” design, the Mi-Do’s brakes are not the most informative.

Datsun mi-Do salon

The Mi-Do's interior is designed without being too stiff - simple, unpretentious and tasteful. Dashboard it is as informative as possible, the steering wheel is quite comfortable, the deflectors are located at the optimal height, thanks to which they warm and cool the interior space well. The large screen available in the top version adds chic, and the ergonomics are well thought out. Visibility is good, and parking sensors help out in critical situations.

The Datsun's interior is nice, but nothing more.

The seats are well-profiled, but it’s uncomfortable to sit behind the wheel, because the column is adjustable only in height, and the seat is only adjustable in angle. It takes a long time to choose the optimal position, and the lateral support is so impressive that you don’t even notice its presence.

The range of adjustments for the front seats is small, but there is a minimum. And the lateral support is not so great.

The rear sofa is similar to that of the Grant. But the creators of the Mi-Do claim that they have seriously modernized it, replacing the filler and slightly repurposing it - from now on, the passenger seats are not so clearly highlighted.

The rear seat is almost flat, but the trio of headrests clearly indicate that the car is a 5-seater.

Visually, the interior is even boring in places - the dark color of the plastic, which doesn’t even spare the emergency light button, is slightly diluted with deathly pale aluminum inserts. There are noticeable signs of "budget" - small flaws in the assembly, roughness on the plastic, a subtle phenolic smell, which, however, quickly dissipates. And the sound insulation leaves much to be desired.

You can briefly take a look at the top-spec Mi-Do interior in this video:

Equipment and cost

It’s nice that Datsun doesn’t skimp on the safety of its passengers, offering even in the basic version a couple of airbags, supplemented ABS systems, BAS and EBD. It’s noticeable - the level of protection, for a price of 432,000 rubles, is almost unprecedented! The rest, however, is nothing outstanding - a minimum set of amenities, consisting of on-board computer, front electric windows and electric mirrors.

Naturally, as prices rise, the list is replenished with new devices. Yes, it also has climate control. And for 466,000 you can get a car with a multimedia system with a 2DIN monochrome screen, two pairs of speakers, Bluetooth, an SD card slot and the HandsFree function.

An audio system with a small monochrome display is not supplied as standard.

Stage-by-stage changes occur in the next version, which is already sold for 482,000 rubles. Mi-Do receives a stylish 15-inch casting, door handles and mirrors painted in the same color as the body, door moldings and fog lights. There are also plenty of innovations in the cabin - parking sensors, full power accessories, rain and light sensors, an ESC (dynamic stabilization) system, and an alarm system. Definitely worth the extra charge!

You will have to pay the most for the top version - 516,000 rubles. But for that amount of money, the Mi-Do will be equipped with a navigation system with maps of the CIS countries, a heated windshield, and the safety bastions will be reinforced with side airbags.

With navigation, the car is already expensive - 516,000 rubles, and this is without an automatic transmission.

All quoted prices imply the purchase of a Datsun with a manual transmission. If you want an “automatic”, then you need to add another 40,000 rubles to each of them.

Results - is it worth buying the Datsun Mi-Do?

So, did the Japanese company manage to create a model that is head and shoulders above the Granta and Kalina? Can its owner say without a twinge of conscience that he bought a “Japanese car”? It's still unclear. The Datsun Mi-Do is, of course, better than domestic models, but not by an order of magnitude.

That is why a lot will depend on after-sales service - Datsun dealers must show the “highest class” so that Mi-Do owners can safely recommend their purchase to others!

However, a comprehensive overview of the model can be viewed in this video:

Among the car abundance at the stands of the Moscow motor show MIAS-2014 Special attention Russian visitors were attracted by the Datsun mi-DO hatchback. This model is unique, because never before in the history of the automotive industry has there been a case where a Japanese car was built on the basis of a Russian passenger car. And the five-door mi-DO is just such a unique, foundation-shattering event, because the brainchild of the Japanese company Nissan was designed on the basis of the famous development of the Tolyatti engineers of the “” model.

And then a year and a half ago, after two decades of oblivion, the Japanese decided to bring the old brand back to life in order to launch the production of inexpensive cars under this name for growing markets, such as Indian, South African and our Russian and Ukrainian. And since now Nissan, together with Renault, actually owns our VAZ, it was decided to open the production of cars under the Datsun brand in the Russian Federation.

Name Datsun mi-DO

The Japanese love imagery and the very specific meaning hidden in unusual poetic structures. By calling the new hatchback the verbal design mi-DO, the manufacturers wanted to emphasize the international features of the unusual Russian-Japanese car. The word DO in Japanese means “path”, “movement” or “striving for something”, and the particle Mi is used as an analogue of sound English word me, which can be translated as “my”.

The profile was adjusted using body-color moldings and alloy wheels.

The rear seat backs can be folded in a 60 to 40 ratio, which allows you to put bulky items in the luggage compartment. The trunk is not very large (less than 240 liters), but since we are not talking about an SUV, the owner is unlikely to carry large amounts of luggage.

Designed specifically for Russian market. And at the 2014 Moscow Motor Show, the premiere of a hatchback based on it, which was called mi-DO, took place.

As in the case of the sedan, the new Datsun Mi-DO 2019 (photo and price) is based on a modernized platform from the car. But if outwardly the four-door looks more like Grant, standing out with an impressive trunk, then the five-door has a body like the Kalina hatchback.

Options and prices Datsun mi-DO 2019

MT5 - 5-speed manual, AT4 - 4-speed automatic.

At the front, the 2019 Datsun MiDo received a proprietary hexagonal radiator grille, which the company calls the “D-cut grill,” but the shape of the head optics is somewhat different from those installed on the sedan. And from the rear, the car can be distinguished from Kalina by modified lights and a slightly retouched trunk lid.

Compared to the sedan, the overall length of the Datsun mi-DO was reduced from 4,337 to 3,950 millimeters, while the width (1,700), height (1,500) and wheelbase (2,476) remained the same.

The interior design of the hatchback copies the four-door, and under the hood there is the same 1.6-liter eight-valve gasoline engine with an output of 87 hp, paired with a five-speed manual transmission. But the Jatco four-speed automatic transmission, which was not initially offered on-DO, was immediately available as an option.

In the autumn of 1917, the new Datsun Mi Do acquired a 106-horsepower version of the 1.6 engine (an additional payment of 15,000 rubles for it). At first, you can only buy a hatchback with such an engine in conjunction with a manual transmission, but later they promise to start equipping it with an automatic transmission.

Accepting orders for the new Datsun mi-DO in Russia started on February 4, 2015; today the price range for the five-door varies from 536,000 to 673,000 rubles. Thus, the basic version turned out to be 73,400 rubles. more expensive than Kalina. But the equipment of the MI-DO is richer - already in the initial version there is power steering, front airbags, side mirrors with electric drive and heating, an on-board computer and heated front seats.

For an additional fee, climate control and a multimedia system with a USB port, an SD card slot, Bluetooth and four speakers are offered. The top version of the Datsun Mi-DO 2019 includes foglights, light and rain sensors, electric windows on all doors, an audio system and 15-inch alloys wheel disks.
